Sorry to be asking these questions but couldn't really find what I was looking for in a search. First what is the difference in a 300A and a 300B? I am looking to buy a Marauder soon and want to know is one better than the other is there a difference in model year? I am hoping to buy one with less than 20,000 miles on it. Do you think that much damage could be done to a marauder with only 20K on it? Looks can be deceiving you know. How can I tell if the previous owner drove it like a jackass. Thanks for any help, this site is awesome. Oh yeah, does anyone tow with their Marauder? I need to be able to tow my 2-place snowmobile trailer.
Thanks again,
Matt I.

Ok this looks like a good place to ask....when searching all the 300A and 300B posts I find the word "Decontented" used several times...what's it mean...
Also...several folks stated that all 2004's are 300A's and only 300B's have
traction control....My 2004 has traction control...http://www.mercurymarauder.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif
So doen't that make my 2004 a 300B????????????http://www.mercurymarauder.com/forums/images/smilies/confused.gif
If I've missed something and/or have had a severe attack of the dumb a$$...I apologize in advance....
Thanks for you feed back....Architecthttp://www.mercurymarauder.com/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif

Ehhhh, you better pass on these Marauders. There's nothing special about them. You get a disease called Mod-itis. It's incurable, noone has been able to fight it or shake it off. Your wallet will become noticeably lighter due to the disease. You become obsessed with the car itself. Just stay away.
But I do have to say the only bright spot about this disease is that as you get further along in the symptoms the Big ***** eaten grin you have only gets bigger. :D
Good luck on your purchase and welcome to the site.

300A and 300B's are for the '03 model year only. 300A's are the original black '03's; 300B's came out in mid/late '03. All '04's are 300A's

2003 had two versions - 300A and 300B (with traction control and decontenting, as we call it.)
2004 only had one version - 300A (letter reset with model year) and has traction control.
Early November 2002 the production line was changing (from A to B), such as the addition of traction control, mini spare and deleting previously standard items, such as remote gas door opener, front seat pockets, separate clock and auto parking brake release. We call the cars that were in transition at that time "pre-decontented" because while they are technically 300Bs, they still have some of the items from 300As. The changes in the assembly line didn't happen all at once, so the "pre-decontented" are in between.

IMHO get a 2003 300A the only one with a decent
windshield tint and a full size spare tire!
Gotta Love It! :P

The term only applies to the 2003 model year. The initial production 300As had some things (i.e. contents) that were later removed on the 300Bs. Hence the term "decontented" (i.e. contents removed). Some of the stuff removed in the transition to the 300B was: the stand alone dash clock, map pockets in the seats, full sized spare tire, remote fuel door release. The one major addition for the 300B was Traction Control. :D
I guess someone here on the MM.Net "coined" the word decontented. 'Cause I recall initially thinking it meant discontented.

As for Towing, my friend who lives in Newbury Park California towed his GoldWing on a much larger than needed trailer, here to Florida last February. Stayed one month, then towed up to South Carolina, then back to California.
He had no problems.
He is the one who got me hooked on a MM. After I drove his, I just had to have one. Whenever I talk with him on the phone, I tell him that when he returns next February, "Please, don't be driving a Rolls-Royce". ;)

Thanks again,
Matt I.To the first question, depends upon what you think a jackass driver does with a Marauder. If he drove-it-like-he-stole-it, that's probably a good thing as long a she changed the fluids regularly. What I'd be more worried about is if he maintained it like a jackass.
And to the second question, Carfixer just put one on his. Search for the thread and see a pic of his fine hitch and cover installation.
Get behind the wheel of one of these cars and you won't be thinking about getting one anymore. You'll be hocking the boat, the furniture, renting the wife, whatever it takes to get one. :D

Hey guys thanks for all the input and the warm welcome. I knew those had to be your typicall newbee questions. I did a search I swear.:) After reading those past posts, I'm leaning towards a model with traction control, I think it will be beneficial in the snowy parking lots typical when you are unloading a sled. I cant wait till I'm able to track one down there are some around me and I'm not afraid to take a trip somewhere. Its a good reason to get out on the bike. I definately want to get a black one, I already have a 02 taurus in Toreador Red, and silver is not really my thing. My wife is on board with the whole idea, her only request is that we can "pirate it up" when we get one. Again thanks alot guys, and gals!, I'll keep you updated on the search.
