WELL, I JUST GOT MY PROCHARGER KIT INSTALLED FROM F.I.T AND IT RAN FINE FOR THE FIRST 100 MILES OR SO, NOW THE CAR SPUTTERS BADLY AT IDLE AND THROUGHOUT THE RPM RANGE, NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND I RETIGHTENED ALL THE HOSES AND CHECKED FOR VACUME LEAKS. WHAT COULD BE CAUSING THIS, THE CAR HAS ONLY 18,000 MILES ON IT BUT LIKE I SAID THIS ONLY STARTED AFTER THE KIT WAS INSTALLED, IF ANYONE HAS ANY IDEAS ON WHAT THE PROBLEM MIGHT BE I WOULD BE GREATFUL, ITS A SHAME TO HAVE SUCH A NICE CAR AND TO HAVE IT RUN LIKE CRAP

I know this one! Get a can of Valvoline Synthetic throttle body cleaner (spray can), remove the K&N Cone filter and clean the MAF sensor by hitting it real good with the cleaner. Then take a rag and gently mop up the spray at the bottom of the tube being careful not to touch the MAF inside.

Some oil from the K&N has coated your MAF sensor is all. Mine did it a couple times while breaking in the kit. I sometimes think K&N puts too much of their own oil on them.

Cheers!

John

If it was the Maf it would set a check engine light, there are many things that can cause this, I would call Gregg I am sure he can rectify this situation, is the car flashed or did you install a chip if its a chip remove it clean the EEC terminal board and reinstall the chip, was the car dyno tuned? have you verified the air fuel all these are critical questions

Good points too Dennis. My ProCharger kit did this too so I suspect the same thing is happening. If not, Unknown needs to fill us in by answering your questions so we can look for "Plan B".

Cheers!

UNKOWN, welcome to the growing Procharger family.

We're gaining experience with these kits now that there is eight of them out there and we're always comparing notes. Is yours is the first self-installed kit?

I hope this turns out just to be just an filmed-over MAF sensor. John's right, they oil the heck out of those big K&Ns. Make sure to check out the Forced Induction Technology forum on this site and don't be a stranger.

AFTER LOSING MY MIND FOR A FEW DAYS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG WITH MY CAR I FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM. AFTER CHECKING AND RECHECKING THE HOSES, PLUGS, MAF SENSOR, VACUME CONNECTIONS AND ANY THING ELSE THE GOOD PEOPLE ON THIS SITE, GREG AND I COULD THINK OFF I DECIDED TO START REPLACING PARTS. I STARTED WITH THE PLUGS EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE BRAND NEW HAVING ONLY ABOUT 150 MILES ON THEM AND HAVING NO VISABLE DAMAGE, AND THATS WHERE I STOPPED. AFTER GAPPING AND INSTALLING THE NEW PLUGS THE CAR PURRED LIKE A KITTEN. NOW I CAN FINALLY ENJOY RIDING IN MY CAR AGAIN. :) THE CAR RUNS GREAT JUST AS IT DID WHEN THE KIT WAS FIRST INSTALLED. I MUST SAY I AM VERY HAPPY WITH THE KIT AND GREG'S DETERMINATION TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THANKS TO DENNIS, JOHN AND JD FOR HELPING OUT.

Just curious, but what did you have for plugs/gap and what did you replace them with.

That's awesome! The gap on the Autolite plugs that come with the kit should have been set by your installer per the instructions (0.32" to 0.35" IIRC). I'm glad to hear that your Procharger kit is squared away and you're feeling the love.

Did you get the Predator tuner upgrade with the kit? If so, send me a PM after you've put some miles on the Diablo base tune and get a feel for it. I'll put you in touch with a Diablo tuner in the Midwest who charges a very reasonable one-time fee to tweak the base shifting and torque converter lockup schedules for you via email until you are completely satisfied. So far, four of us are utilizing his talents... believe me when I say it only gets better from here!

The Plugs That Were Bad Were The Motorcraft 22c (i Dont Remember The Whole Code) And Were Gapped At .035". The New Plugs Were The Same Brand And Type And Gapped The Same.

The Motorcraft 22c is the recomended plug for the 4V application if they were gaped at .035 and they fouled out the car is way to rich, again I would get this car to a dyno and have the AF checked, if the car is running excesivley rich it can damage the engine.

More good advice. Jim, check with SergntMac about a dyno at Sutton Ford since your in Chicago.

Everyone should always get a Dyno done after a major mod like a supercharger. Our base tune is on the rich side 11 to1 to be safe but every car is diffrent and you never know if something was not Installed properly or If you have a possible defective part.

Jim, I would advise you to spend a couple of dollars and get your car on a Dyno where they can graph your boost.

The new program with our kit is that when you buy our kit you will receive a phone number that you can call and have changes made to you tune to fit our driving needs. This can be done as many times as needed.

Thanks, Greg

ps. Glad you are up and running. I wish I could Install all the kits myself.
