Several weeks ago I bid and won a set of 4 of the OEM BFG 245/55 x 18 tires on ebay. Another forum member and I were going to share them 2 each for our rears. The tires still have not arrived and after waiting two weeks I finally got a message from the seller that the tires were on back order and they didn't know when they would be in. (Of cource, we already know that). He offered me a refund of my PayPal payment of $395 which I still do not have and he has still not answered any of my emails. I have filed a complaint with PayPal.

Just goes to show you that it's possible to get taken even if you think you've used caution. I'm an experienced ebayer and thought I'd done my homework. Asked questions before bidding, reviewed the sellers 100% feedback although only 7 transactions. The seller's ebay store has over 150 items for sale, mostly tires and wheels. So, here's hoping I get my money back and that this is just a lazy seller and not a scammer. Here's the auction and seller lilnk. Don't deal with them (unless my situation is resolved satisfactorily)

I hope you get your money back, Ray. Pizzes me off when someone takes advantage of one of my friends.

I had a couple of problems with ebay sellers. Since I used PayPal and filed a claim within 30 days, PayPal credited my account. I wonder if they still do that. And has it been 30 days yet?

There are certain things I will buy on ebay.
There are things that I WILL NOT buy on ebay.
Of the things that I WILL NOT buy on ebay, they are necessities...

Tires, I consider to be a necessity.
They are expensive and are subjective to bait and switch.

Look to buy from the people that have a long history of dealing with ebay,
and have a better than 90% satisfaction rate.
These are sellers that pride their history and are looking to protect it.
This, in turn, protects your sale, and your satisfaction.

Paypal WILL step in where it is necessary, and only after
you've failed to resolve things between yourself and the seller.
But once they are alerted, things do tend to move very quickly.

I hope you get your money back within a reasonable amount of time.

I got ripped off BIG TIME from a compmay in Indiana called "Indy Mustang" thorough E-Bay.

Thank goodness the DA is now attacking him. Seems he's done this more than once.

A lot of 'companies' on Ebay simply post a ad, you win and pay, and they use your money to purchase the product and have it shipped to them then ship to you or have it directly shipped to you if the vendor will. No overhead at all makes for a profitable business.

A friend of mine sells stuff on Ebay that he gets out of a ABC Distributing catalog. Sometimes he gets the stuff first before selling but if its a hot item he will get 'greedy' and start posting the ads before having the product in his hands and he has been burned when the product is discontinued or backordered.

This guy probably has a garage full of tires but got in over his head and started putting ads up for tires he did not have and when he took your cash to buy them found out they were backordered.

I usually try to ask the ebay seller if they have the item or are simply going to order it after the winner is declared. I don't like resellers.
