So, did SVT have anything to do with our cars? Why wasn't the Marauder an SVT project? (Of course had it been maybe it would've had the same motor as the '03 Cobra...)

Seems like it has plenty of performance upgrades and is a big performance upgrade over a stock GM but has never been associated as an "SVT". Typically Ford associates it's performance special editions with SVT, but the MM doesn't seem to be the case.

Is it simply becuase it was a Mercury? Did SVT have their hands in the Marauder project?

SVT is strictly Ford, SVT had nothing to do with the Marauder...

There are many past discussions here on this subject but basically as I understand it SVT did not design or make the MM.

The MM team did however take parts off the shelf that SVT designed and used on their rides. So the suspension, DOHC, etc have been 'influenced' by SVT.

Part of the reason too was John Colletti, Director of SVT at the time. He had stated that SVT was to be for Ford products and Ford products only. They had to be fast, light and balanced, hence no SVT Expeditions or Marauders.

On a side note: a SVT Expedition was built just not released to the public.

To me, it makes sense that there will be an SVT Crown Vic, one of these days. Perhaps re-badaged as an Galaxie 500? There's gonna be a Shelby GT 500 y'know. They've already learned everything they need as far as R&D are concerned, thanks to the pioneers on the MM net who did their work for them. Put the proper suspension bits on a CV, drop in the GT 500 motor, and there's your Galaxie 500. :woohoo:

And if they do that I'll quickly be another $30k-something poorer. :)

Nope,.. that takes up right back to the "why isn't the 5.4 DOHC in the Marauder" question.

..I wish,..

very unlikely. :depress:

If FOMOCO can put a hi performance version of a 5.4 in the Aussie Falcon (size of a GTO) they can sure fit in a Panther. BTW, the Falcon has a "power dome" hood to fit it under. Motor Trend says we're never going to see it.:bs:

If Mercury handled all of the design and engineering for the 2003-2004 Marauders in-house, then you got to hand it to them. The only thing missing on the Marauder IMHO is a little more horsepower (330-350HP would have been nice) and the 4.10:1 axle ratio. But, you don't absolutely need that in order to enjoy the car. Of all the "performance cars" I've owned over the last forty years, the Marauder is the only one that seems to have all the right parts from the factory. The concept was really cool. A full size high performance car, just like the old Marauders. That was the original plan of Mercury. Mercury developed this great car, then they didn't know what to do with it, or, how to advertise it or sell it. Even the colors they choose, suggest the old sixties muscle car colors. What was not to like.

In my case, my Marauder was $ 36,647, but I got a total of $ 9600 off the sticker, between the dealer discount and all of the rebates Ford offered. What's not to like about that. And, just like with the Mustang GT, you can upgrade the Marauder to your hearts content. What's not to like. I still can't comprehend why more people didn't buy a Marauder. I still get people telling me what a cool car, wheels, performance I have. Almost every day.

You know... seriously, the Torino name would be a good one to bring back. If the car was done right. My folks had a '74 Grand Torino with a 351C. It was bad azz! Wish I could have inherited that car.
