Anyone have rust showing up on their engines?
Is this not the EGR and what recommendations should I follow to make her purdy again?
I plan on representing in about 3 weeks, and do not want this to be seen.
High Temp. paint maybe?
Thank you in advance. :bows:
Mike.
most auto parts stores have some stuff to clean that up, I had some mothers stuff I got in a little can for my rims and it got rid of almost all of the surface rust. I would try that.

High temp paint will give it a nice finish after you do a good prep.

On a COLD morning, use a jar of Navel Jelly to remove the rust.
It should bring back most of the metal surface.
Then prep it and paint with a good HIGH HEAT paint.

POR-15 might be just the ticket for that.

Please dont start yelling about how dumb this is, and we found out about it quite by accident, but here y'go; for what it's worth.
Last year at Carlisle ('04) we got drenched in an all day Saturday storm, with Sunshine under a car cover. Sunday morning, when we uncovered the car, to find there was red rust everwhere.
I went on a search for something, WD-40, anything to spray on the horror with no success. The only thing we could find was the Red Spray Oil K&N uses on their filters. So, I bought a can and sprayed some on one of the worst places and it went fizz, fizz, bubble, bubble, and with a quick wipe, the rust was ...GONE! It's amazing!
Haggis was showing me a few spots on his MM at a cruise-in a couple of weeks ago, and since I had brought Sunshine, had the stuff in the trunk. It worked in his rust also.
Like I said, it sounds crazy, but it worked for us. :twocents:

It comes with K&N's Filtercharger kit. I think it's 10 bucks for the kit.

Yep, that's the stuff. The small can's a lifetime supply. Good luck, I hope it works for everyone like it did for us. :D

I've noticed that my whole engine compartment seems to be getting sprayed with salt in winter and dirt in summer. It seems to coming right under the front lip of the hood (I think). I'm always wiping off the salt and dirt. Anyone got a fix?

I painted my EGR valve with Eastwood high temp paint. Stainless steel color.

It's coming thru the grille and going over the top of the radiator cover. I put a piece of weatherstrip along the edge of it and it seems to help.

Thanks! I'll give it a try. My MM has only 10 months on the road, but I've been worried about rust and shorting with all the salt, plus it just looks bad. Mopping it down all the time has been a pain!

Just wash the entire area under the hood with water when the engine is COLD.
No detergent is needed and a hose with decent pressure and a sprayer is all you really need.
Then wipe down everything that is plastic with a terry cloth towel.
The best thig for salt is water.
I used a small pressure washer that I bought to wash things around the house.
It is great for rinsing under the car, inside the wheel wells, and under the hood.
It washes off all of the grime, dirt and dust under the hood.
Again, I use only water, no detergents...
There is no need to worry about the wiring under the hood.
It should stay in very good condition and the connections should be weatherpoofed.
If you should ever come across a problem, treat it as a problem that needs to be fixed.
The only way you would have ever discovered it, is if it had gotten wet
in the first place.
