How much did you guys pay for your tints? What's the darkest you did it? What's the darkest you're allowed in your state :)

Anyone know good installers in (again) North Jersey?

If I remember, I paid @ $149.00 for all 5 windows.

I chose 35% TINT....That's the legal maximum in Maryland.

I know that in Florida you can run darker tint...20% I think.

Here is where people get into trouble and tint business makes money. You go into the tint place and say "I want legal tint. They say the limit is 35% do you want that? You reply "Yes". They apply 35% to the car and get paid. Their happy and your happy with nice dark windows. But what they fait to tell you is that the windows are already tinted from the factory. You get pulled over and I put the tint meter on your windows and it shows somewhere around 20%. You get all pissed off at me because the tint place screwed you into a repair order (fix it ticket). And guess where you bring it to get the windows fixed? Right back to the guy who put the tint on in the first place. He gets you three times!!!! Once to put tint on, then to remove the illegal tint, then to make it tinted legal.

Be specific when you ask for tinted windows if you want to stay legit. If you want illegal windows, consider this:

We have a guy at work whos pet peve is tinted windows. He'll write the repair order and give a $55.00 ticket. After awile he'll check up on you and if he finds you've satisfied the repair order and then re-tinted the windows below 35% again, off to jail you go!!

For the record, I have better things to do, but hey I have my pet peves too...<!-- / message --><!-- sig -->

Sounds like a tough customer -

I drive with my windows open - even in 35 degree weather -
(its a different story when it rains and snows) but other than that my I can't foresee giving police officers around Jersey a reason (but I give them a whole bunch of other reasons lol) to pull me over for tints.....Unless they ticket me while I'm parked! then im screwed

I'm running 20% all around and paid $190.

The law just came back about 6 months ago enforcing 35% tint here and a lot of my friends have received warnings or tickets but I have not.

I think it may be due to the 'crown vic factor' in that detective and some marked cars run illegal tint and with me driving what resembles a unmarked car I get nothing but waves from the LEO's. If I was driving say a Mustang, I'm sure I would have been pulled over by now.

I have 50% on the front windows and 35% on the rest. I paid $199 at Ziebart. Its subtle and looks good.

No tint is allowed on the front windows in Illinois. I had the tint installed shortly after I bought the car and have not had any problems with the police.

Those damm criminals... stinking up the land with their loud music, and too dark of tint! :D
I kid, there probably should be a standard to at least prevent some idiot from just painting over their windows.

Illinois allows no tint on the front windows and I think that's a crime.

I haven't gotten mine done yet but have looked into it. Quoted anyware from $225 to $299 for all 7 windows. Here in Mich you can have the backs done and the fronts are only aloud 4" from the edge of the windows.

Here's asite that was just updated June 10, 2005:

I'm running 5% 3M all around. I also think the "crown vic factor" comes into play. I work and drive within 1/4 mile of the Maryland State Police barracks in Essex, and see many of Maryland's finest in the Wawa during the day. I have never had any officer say anything about my windows even after asking me about the car. Baltimore Country PD has also looked the car over a couple of times with no negative comments. Maybe it is only a matter of time....:coolman:

I knew a guy with a Chevy truck that had his front windshield tinted at 35% I think, the rest 5%. You could not see into the truck at all even if you put your face to the glass. Seeing out was ok...I recommend perfect vision and slow speeds driving at night as it isn't easy to make things out in the distance. And the tint loved to fog up the windshield.

I've never had problems with the windows fogging, even when the humidity in Baltimore is running at 110%. One thing to consider when purchasing the film is how it will affect your radio reception (no joke). The new 3M film is pricey, but will not fade, discolor, or inhibit radio reception, and is guaranteed for life. It takes some getting used to if your windows are as dark as mine (5%), but if you are running 25 or 30, you should have no problem. I think tinting your windshield is illegal in any state, so probably not a great idea. Just my .02.

NY says 70% for front and side window on cars without factory tint. Y ou can go 0% if you want on the back window as long as you have 2 side mirrors...DUH. Hey, not my rules...NYS Vehicular law section 12...blah blah blah.

I left my fronts untinted (only factory 90% or whatever it is) and did 20% in the rear.

TECHNICALLY, the rears aren't....shall we say LEGIT. :D But they never bother you for rears. After saying that, I probably just jinxed myself...lol....But what about all those SUVs and 4 door pickups with factory rear tint?

I have 20% Tint, However its 15-18% on the Glass. I went to a window Tinting Place Across From Shea Stadium and all 7 windows Cost me $160 with a lifetime warranty. This is my 3rd Vehicle I have had tinted by them and I NEVER had any problems with their work. I was Told by a NYPD officer that 70% was legal on the driver and passenger side Front Windows. The Back Door Windows can be as dark as you want but they must be able to be rolled down in the event of being pulled over. Your Back Window can be Painted if you please. If you get a ticket for tint, You used to be able to go to a window place and get a receipt that says you had the tint removed and they would squash the ticket. However, Now you have to bring the vehicle and the ticket to the Precinct and they have to Visually Inspect that the tint was in fact Removed before they can Squash the Ticket. Im Dating a NYPD officer and My Brother in Law is Working with the Anti-Terrorist Task Force, So His Business Card and PBA card Seem to make my Tint Legal ;)

I have 35% on the side and rear windows. The cost was $150.00. The product was Llumar which is a high quality film.

I used a tint meter on a new CVPI and the facory tinted glass was just within the limit. In NYS any additional tint on the front door windows is illegal. :(
