View Full Version : Part numbers, vendor links, and more...

I was thinking about some of the modifications that folks here are putting on their rigs. Everytime I find something that I want to do to my car it requires hours and hours of research before I find a part number, correct size, who sells it, and where to go. Wondered if you guys were interested in starting a sticky page of some common items: mufflers, headers, tuners, s-chargers, radios, etc. This would be very helpful to me. I would start with the following: What part number is used to order the 4.10:1 gears for the Marauder from Ford Racing?
Let me know if I am repeating the work already done and I will shut up and go sit quietly in the corner.
Thanks,
Chad

Getting the 411 you need for a mod is not hard here, filtering out the opposing opinions is. If you have made up your mind what you want to do, ask for help and stand by. You'll get dizzy reading replies.
Keep an eye out for "GB" or "GP" which means "group buy", or, "group purchase", and a better than regular discount for volume purchases. 9 out of 10 times they go smoothly, but just like business in the real world, once in a while they fall apart.
Every once in a while too, a "kit" for a mod will pop up, all the right stuff at the right price, "just call Joe at..." This is fine with most folks, but some think it's strictly a plug for Joe's business, rather than solid and ttrustworthy direction towards shortcuts others didn't have. It's a matter of perspective, but if it's the right parts at the right price, best "call Joe."
Good luck in your mods.

Chad, if it has a Ford part number I always call Ray, AKA The Dealer, who's a supporting vendor here. Just describe the part you want, and he KNOWS the number, gives you the very best price you're ever gonna get, and ships it out the very same day. Sometimes, I think he anticipates my orders, 'cause the stuff's here by the time I hang up the phone. Ray's the best, as are all the guys who support this site, just tell 'em what you want, or if you don't know, call and ask them.

Thanks for the plugs, guys. Maybe the take away from this is not to have vendor links as not everyone can agree but to have the part numbers and specs on popular mods. As you can see, I have placed a question on my original note and so far no one has replied with a part number thus proving that it does take a little time to get the info you want. Granted this is only an hour or so far and one cannot be too picky but can be frustrating nonetheless.
Keep the ideas coming. So far, this is one of the strongest community sites I have seen. Except for the supercharger arguments, I have appreciated what I read about how-tos, mods, and other folks questions about the car.
I used to own a 1994 Impala SS (back in 1996-1997) and the website of the time naisso.com National Association of Impala SS Owners was not near as friendly and fun as this site.
Look forward to more ideas to come on this topic.

I'm going to make a comment here, and I'm sure you'll think me an A$$.Thats fine.
You asked for the PN for FRPP 4.10 gears, dude your just plain LAZY.
M-4209-G410.
Now what are you going to do about it? You can put the gears in but the speedo will be off,the shift points will be off,in short you'll need a retune to make the gears work.
Look over the vender area of this site,ya I know the list is short,we don't have Chevies or Mustangs.
Buy from one of our venders because they know our cars, that Mustang tuner down the road knows nothing about programming our Transmissions. He may get the engine tuned but the shifting is were it's at.
The P/N list you mention has been started but I don't know were it ended up.
Go to the vender pages and read the post's or you can just search for what your looking for, gears should light up about 10 pages I'm sure.
Before you start modding though make a plan, were do you want to end-up?
Or how fast do you want to go?
Sorry to come down on you.

The guy that tuned Mac's, Zack's, and my car [and a few others too] is a Mustang Tuner - Gerry V, of Sutton High Performance. I get the gist of what you mean though... most are not familiar with our cars, tbut there is at least one notable exception to that statment and I am glad he is just 35 miles south of me.

Slowpoke your right.
I'm not going to edit my post though.
This is the kind of info that just ASKING can bring out.
This is also why it's helps to add your location to your sig.
some members have found local tuners that will take the time to work with you and do the job right.
I will stand by my above comment when it comes to tuning the transmission you don't want the guy tuning it to be doing it on your car his first time.

Granted this is only an hour or so far and one cannot be too picky but can be frustrating nonetheless. Point taken. Lance has delivered the goods, and a lot of stuff we talk about is available in the FRP catalogue. Prices may differ from what this catalogue suggests, that depends on the FRP dealer, which there are many. Here, you can order FRP parts from Kenny Brown and they will be delivered to your door, but at catalogue prices. You can shop e-bay with their search function by part FRP number, or, FRP dealers, there are many. I have asked Ray (The Dealer) about being a FRP vendor too, and he's been there and done that at one time, but not today. I have another dealership who is a FRP dealer, but they are not a supporting vendor here, so, I won't sugest them.
With other parts that are not of FRP, or, FMC origin, the specific part number one of us used may be different from vendor to vendor, some of who use their own inventory number. If this is the case, we're not going to be much help, i.e. a 6160MRV blow off valve directly from Vortech may be part #2 from "Joe", get me?
However, over time, we have collectd FMC part numbers for lots of OEM parts we use in mods, and you can find them here...

A little harsh, but I understand what you mean.
One thing to note is that when people ask what mods should I do to my car? You get a list of about 10 items. The same ten items are very common. I plan to get a special tune from Lidio with the xcal2. I plan to get the 4.10 gears. I did not know about the speedo and dont remember seeing that in the posts I read about the gears. I did search for 4.10 and got a lot of posts but after about two hours did not see part numbers. I went to fordracingparts.com and it does not list part numbers for anything but mustangs, rangers, expeditions. You can tell me what you think of me with that added info and perhaps I will change my impression of this forum, perhaps not.
So that is what made me think about this post before I wrote it. Sorry you think me lazy but I dont have all day to spend on each item I am thinking about doing. Before I finally buy anything I will ask you Pros what you think one last time just in case some new gadget or what you may call it comes out which makes the purchase unwise. Btw, what do you think about the first item to be purchased being an xcal2 with lidio tune?
Thanks dude for your input.

Doh! Thanks for making me suffer. lol.
That is exactly what I was looking for. We can end this particular post as I am humbled. You know I went to the Resource Room and since I did not find this particular gem there, I figured I would reinvent the wheel.
Can we add this FAQ to that sticky section so some other newb does not repeat this and get the same beratement?
I would still like to hear what you guys think of starting with the tune and an XCal2? I dont have alot of money and so I have to take these things very slow on my daily driver. Obviously, there is alot of concern about the 4.10 gears :)

I now see your in Dallas.
Hook up with the local North Texas Gang and you'll be on the right track.
Your doing Bussiness with Lidio.Your set,one of the best Marauder tuners we have on site for sure.
The XCal2 as a first mod is fine, the tuner allows for end user adjustments for gear changes and also allows for a secound tune if you wish.
Tell Lidio of your gear change plans when you order.
I suggest when you purchase tuning you do so over the phone or in person so nothing is lost in translation.
BTW the rear in the car is an 8.8 same as the Mustang.

Thanks everyone for the positive thoughts. I did not realize that my profile did not have where I am from until yesterday.
Also, thanks for the info about the rear end being the same as the 8.8 mustang parts.
Okay, that is it for now.
Later,
