View Full Version : Seat Durability & Comfort for a Tall Person

I got a good buddy in the Tampa, FL area who is thinking of getting a Marauder.

I told him about the site and perhaps he will register. In the mean time I figured I would post a thread on the questions he asked me for you to respond to.

He is tall - 6'5", I think. He is not a 'large' man in the politicaly correct sense, just tall.

He is wondering how comfortable the car is and how durable the seats have been with owners with similar physical characteristics.

Also, if you know of a good used car in the Tampa area, post the info.

I will email him a link to this thread so he can read it.

thanks in advance.

6'5" at 225lbs. here. I am quite comfortable on short or long trips-the lumbar support is great! Plenty of leg and shoulder room. The driver's seat still looks like new after 20k+ miles. You are welcome to meet up with me and drive my car. Just drop me a line.

There was a blue MM at Autoway in Bradenton, but it has been sold. I'll be on the lookout for another MM.:)

Poke, I am 6'7" and I find the MM very comfortable to sit in and drive for long distances. BigDogJim is also tall, but he had to have the visor removed as it blocked his vision. As you well know, with the seat all the way back the leg room in the back seat is next to non-existant, but this will be true in any 4-door car. There is a thread here somewhere as well about removing the pin in the driver's seat that gives the driver about 1/4 to 1/2 inch more leg room.
Another advantage is that he will not need a dead-pedal :)

Hope this helps.

You gotta love all the head room in these cars. Compared to my previous car ('97 T-Bird Sport) I'll bet I've got an extra four to five inches of head room. I'm only 5'11", but I had to scrunch down in my seat or I'd hit my head on the roof of the T-Bird (it had a moon-roof, which gobbled some of the head room). In the Marauder, I've never had anybody get in as a passenger who had head-room troubles. Gotta love the big cars!

I got nervous there for a second. I thought you thought you were tall. Phew. Glad I didn't have to straighten that out.

Here's the thread >>>> Search on Legroom (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16509&highlight=legroom)

The info is in BigDogJim's post. :D

Nah, I don't get tall until at least the third or fourth drink. ;)

I'm 6'5", 300 lbs. and the Marauder is the most comfortable car I've ever owned. I recently had a little road trip and drove for 19 hours in one stretch. No back pain or stiffness. My car has 27,000 km on it and the seats look new.

Hummm...

I am only 6'3" but have long legs. I do not find my Marauder uncomfortable but on long drives I find my self frequently adjusting the seat to find a better spot. It would be nice if the seat bottom and seat back were adjustable independetly of each other.

I might add, for tall guys, especially in the torso area, you may wat to avoid the Moonroof.

The headliner is two inches lower than without the roof.
I did not get the Moonie, cause I see Eye to eye, with my big Marauders brothers!

The only thing that I would change is the visor.
I remember reading of a member, removeing it , to get better visibility.

6'4" 280#... 36" inseam.
I think the Marauder is certainly one of the roomier cars available. It's a bit tight in legroom. Headroom is not really an issue.

I drive with the steering wheel in it's top most location. The seat all the way back. And the back of the seat angled a bit more than I'd prefer.

It's a big car, but they didn't have us tall folks in mind when putting it together.

At stoplights, if I have the "front row advantage," it's difficult to see the light. I have to crouch down a bit, otherwise it's obscured by the brow line.

I too find myself constantly tweeking the seating position.

In short, have your friend look at other vehicles, but certainly don't rule the Marauder out yet.

Nearly forgot... I also have a size 14 foot, and find that I have to twist my ankle quite a bit to make sure I hit the brake without touching on the gas at the same time. Makes stop and go traffic a bit more painful than should be tolerated in a full size car.

(The adjustable pedals are proof that short people at least got a nod in this design)

I am six feet tall, and about 245lbs. I find that the Marauder is the first car I have driven where I did not have to run the seat all the way back. Previously we have had Crown Vics for our full size car. It is comfortable enough for long trips for us. That was one of the requirements. If your buddy would like to test drive (and test fit) a stock Marauder, and doesn't mind driving to Orlando, just PM me for contact numbers.

he will love the marauder!

i am a little over 6'7" (320 lbs)and am on my third panther. the eight way power adjusting seats are amazing.

i have driven many marauders and have found them just as comfortable.

a sunroof is not an option, unfortunately.

in '01 they changed the dash design bit and there is less legroom in the passenger seat though. so if he rides shotgun for some reason, he will not be comfortable.

my little brother (6'4", 380lbs), has a tough time in the passenger seat. he fits better in the back seat with a normal sized person in the front.

I would hope you would use my experience as a road warrior(45-50 K/yr) in the MM as a good test.

6'6" and a svelte 230.

Would still be driving one on the road if there had been a S/C '05 as I had hoped. It's the first car I have kept.

Me,the "chipmonk" :) and the girls(all grown up) have made several trips down to the beach----------with all their junk(remember this trunk is big enough to hide dead bodies)------no problem.

see ya Sunday

Thanks White Knuckles... if my friend is reading this, please "connect the dots", so to speak, and realize that White Knuckles is a person you have already met.

He ought to post his mileage too... he's got one of the highest mileage MM's around, I think.
