Ok, the local transmission shop is having problems installing my PI Stallion. HELP!
We can't tell if the converter is in all the way. Anyone have the specs as to how far the center pilot should extend from the face of the bell housing so we know when it is seated correctly?
Using a straight edge, it looks like we are very close but when we put it up to the flex plate, it looks like it still is 1/4 to 1/2 from mating to the block. Is the pilot bushing that tight?
If this is -not- on all the way, what is the trick to get it to seat? The factory converter just slides right on and off but this one is a biaatch.
So, if you have the specs for protrusion from the bell housing, let me know.
Thanks in advance.

From what I found out from the tranny tech who did Cobra25's MM, you should hear to audible clicks- one at the limit on the input shaft splines and the other to click into the pump.

They had the same problem with mine also. I called P.I. and they told me that most performance oriented converters (including theirs) will fit tighter than the factory stock ones do. They also told me that ithelps if the transmission is stood up on it's end so that the weight of the converter will help with the installation. The dealer said that they had to hit the converter with a rubber mallet in order to get it on.

Thanks Dennis, Greg and Billy!
Per Dennis, I took my rubber mallet (which I -so- desperately wanted to use on the owner's forehead) and my white lithium grease to persuade it on. I lubed up the snout, gently caressing it with that slippery white... [oops, daydream alert]
I applied it generously to the converter snout, lined up the two notches for the tranny pump and then pushed it in till it stopped. Then I tapped it 2 or three times with the mallet to seat the converter in the pump housing.
Done.
Then it gets better... I complete this apparent "magic" to the converter at 3:30pm and he then says to me, "Well, I guess we'll get it back in tomorrow for you."
TOMORROW?!?!?
What I said and what I wanted to say, well, that's just Sailor Talk!
So tomorrow I pick it up and THEN I use the mallet on his forehead...
Thanks again everyone.
