I don't see why you'd need to...I re-used the original bolt when I installed my Steedas, and re-used it again when I put the stock dampener back on...per carfixer, it is not torque-to-yield so reusing it was OK.

Beg to differ I think. If the manual states to discard the fastener, you should do so. If it states you can reuse it, then go ahead if it is clean and rust free. The bolt torque specs are based on new bolts. I know. I create them for a living. Once a bolt is used, its frictional characteristics change which will impact its torque spec. You'll spend more torque overcoming friction and less on clamping. Secondly, the threads will wear away the more you use it. Its cheap insurance to buy a new fastener.

If the manual states to discard the fastener, you should do so. If it states you can reuse it, then go ahead if it is clean and rust free. The Steeda pulleys come with a special temporary "installation" bolt...their instructions say to re-use the original once the new crank pulley has been started.

Not to question carfixer, but I beleive the crankbolt IS torque to yeild.

It has been about 2 years but I believe the instruction said torque to "whatever" then turn an additional "something deg."
(Sorry I don't have the instruction here at work)

From what I've heard you can reuse the torque to yeilds 3 times before you chuck them.

It has been about 2 years but I believe the instruction said torque to "whatever" then turn an additional "something deg." Torque-to-angle is not the same thing as torque-to-yield. Torque angle specs are also used with "normal" fasteners
because it's more accurate. OTOH, lots of torque-to-yield bolts have been used in older engines, with plain old torque specs.

From what I've heard you can reuse the torque to yeilds 3 times before you chuck them. This depends on the fastener and the application. Many torque-to-yield fasteners are one time use only.

TTY bolts should not be re-used..

The crank bolt should not be a TTY bolt
and should be re-usable..:D

Thanks guys!

I had to reuse the one I bought with the pullies,
It was only used (torqued) the once for a few months!
