What year Marauders had the Defective Paint, cause I believe I got some of it.

I noticed I had a few scratches on the roof were the paint came off. No Big, I get the touch up paint look at it and realize,

Its all over my roof hood and trunk.
The paint is literally coming off the car http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cussing.gif

Looks like I have to talk to my dealer about a repaint under warrenty, You can guess....I'm not happy http://www.crownvic.net/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grrr.gif

I believe it was mostly 2003, and it was only black. I think.

Only black I understand, as My car is Black.
Maybe some leftover paint they wanted to use up?

Car was built in June of 04, Any Black Marauders built within that time have paint issues?

I have bad paint on my black 300B..

I've gone to two dealerships, one with a bodyshop.
The first one (no bodyshop) told me it was bird crap... tough break...

Took it to another (with bodyshop) he was a little more interested.. but told me that it was acid rain/fallout. Said the warranty on that is 12mos/12k miles.

He did say if I can show him a VIN of anyone that had Ford pay for a repaint after 12/12 he'd have more of an argument to warranty it for me. He said he would love the business - he doesn't care if it's my money or Ford's, but he can't paint my car without assurance that Ford would pay him.

Called the "Heroes" customer service line. They told me that they stick behind their dealers.

I suppose if there is anyone here that has had Ford warranty their paint after 12/12 we can establish a shop in the Chicago area that would fix this.
Which is nice. Until then... crap.

The official story from the factory was that the new robotic paint process which began in late 2002 or early 2003 had some issues.

It was designed to leave only thin coats of paint in areas that were not directly exposed, like door jams, under hood, under trunk, etc.

Dennis Reinhart called me while I was on my way to sea. He was really concerned about how bad it looked. I told him that I would appreciate anything he could do about it.

I had not seen the car since I had it shipped directly to Jacksonville FL from the plant.

He worked some back channels through Ford and got both his blue and my blue 300B MMs repaired under warranty to his satisfaction.

I don't remember everything about it since it was 2 and a half years ago, but Dennis would have some information. It took a lot of effort on his part but it opened the doors for several folks who needed paint work under warranty.

Thanks guys,

I have the problem on my Roof and Hood, the rest was dirt. I should be able to have this taken care of as the car is not even a year old yet, and I have some good connections at the dealership so this should be taken care of.

Wish me luck

Just got mine back Friday Jul 29th from Sunset Ford, a SVT dealer here in St. Louis. They only did the hood, roof, and trunklid (although they were good enough to debadge the trunklid for me for a fee that I consider reasonable---$50). Unfortunately, the rest of the car is showing wear---the local industrial fallout from the A-B Brewery has oxidized the paint horribly, and the decrepit condition of Interstate 55 through STL's South City and South County areas has all but flailed the paint off the leading edges. So I've got a bright shiny black hood, roof, and trunklid---and the rest of the car looks like crapola. The dealer claimed that since I didn't have the ESP they weren't going to do more than that for it, and I'm out of time to do anything more because in three weeks time I've got to ship it out to HI.

As I sit back and reread what I've written here, the thought comes to mind: Why should I expect them to cover road damage and oxidation? For starters, because the warranty says so; while the 3/36 covers mechanical/drivetrain/electrical/misc, there IS a separate warranty for the body. I don't remember positively but I thought it something on the order of 7 years or 100,000 miles, first come. Secondly, if the paint had actually been applied correctly at the factory, it wouldn't BE coming off; there'd be chips alright, but nothing on the order of what I've got now. I wouldn't have visible chunks (that's right...I said CHUNKS) of paint coming off the leading edges and exposing bare metal. Or in the case of the external rearviews, bumper and grill area, bare plastic.

So yeah...I DO expect my warranty to be observed.

I have a few small bubbles on my roof... Screw the warranty. When they get big enough I'm gonna have it painted with some Dupont Imron.

I know this is gonna cost quite a bit. I'd rather have it done right the first time.
