Dennis,
This sounds interesting.
First, Vortech water to air. What about air to air. Just curious on your thoughts as I try to learn more. (no intent to flame)
Second, what size rim. Because I think you need at least 18" to run 4.10's.
Let me know your game plan, sounds like its going to be one quick CV.

Sounds interesting. the 2 valve engine? Heavy vehicle. and all the MM mods.
I wonder how it will respond across the rpm range. keep us posted. thanks

Dennis sells both.
The air to air is simpler and less expensive.
The water to air should keep AIT temps lower.

I would be interested in which rims, too. Not so much as a concerns for the other mods, but just which ones. As for the gears, the only other items that should go with it are the extended tailshaft housing on the tranny and driveshaft, right? And does the Vortech kit work with the stock intake or will that get switched to a Bullit style intake?
I would be interested in this build up to. For the money the owner looks to put in the car, why did he/she go with the Crown Vic instead of a Marauder? Is it at least a CV LX Sport?

Eric its a 05 CV LX sport it will get a built trans with the forced Lube circuit as well as 410 and the KVR Break kit as well, I will post all the pictures I also posted this on the CV site as well, and it will bolt up to the stock TB

Sounds good and really look forward to following this build up. Any guess on RWHP on the stock motor with the S/C when all is said and done? I have heard that the AED supercharger will do about 100hp or so above stock. Just wondering if the money saved buying an '03 or '04 CV LX Sport (compared to a Maruader) could be put in a supercharger kit and come close to running with a stock 300C or Magnum RT?
Is the Vortech SC what Kenne Brown used on the original Panther S? And how loud is the Vortech SC under normal driving conditions?

Second, what size rim. Because I think you need at least 18" to run 4.10's. While wheel size can cut down, or, increase the absolute final drive ratio, it's not over until the tire size is selected. 4:10s can be used with any wheel size, as well as any tire size, but you can sharpen your absolute final drive ratio and focus that with just the right combination. 18" wheels are not a requirement, some would say they are an obstacle to a better launch. Likewise, some would say the 4:10s are the obstacle. Either way, you need to do the absolute math for the right focus.
I wonder how it will respond across the rpm range. The 4V 4.6 DOHC native to the MM is capable of awesome RPMs. In the Mach 1 with a manual tranny, it can continue to produce power through 7000 RPM, with the right tuning. The 4V DOHC design may be the highest reving Ford production engine on the street today, real screamers they are. But, you should expect this when there are twice as many valves on duty.
The 2V SOHC isn't as fortunate, it's got half the valves. But, it does well in lower RPMs, where both engines are remarkably similar in power production. Maybe it's not the best engine for full 1/4 mile competition, but in the stoplight Gran Prix, where the race is more similar to an 1/8 mile drag strip, a 2V SOHC engine can change your day.
As for the gears, the only other items that should go with it are the extended tailshaft housing on the tranny and driveshaft, right? And does the Vortech kit work with the stock intake or will that get switched to a Bullit style intake? For the money the owner looks to put in the car, why did he/she go with the Crown Vic instead of a Marauder? Is it at least a CV LX Sport? The frames of the '03-'04 MM and the '05 CV are identical, both are the same length. Both automobiles use the same tranny, so, the tailshaft is fine, just needs to be properly lubed, as the MM tailshaft requires. Likewise, the Reinhart/Vortech kit for the MM will fit this CV with just a few tweaks. The '05 CV 4.6L 2V throttle body is a "southpaw" like the MM, but shaped differently, ergo the "tweaks" I mentioned.
With regard to vehicle choice? Maybe the owner decided too late? All the CV/LX Sport has over other CVs, is a center console and gear selector location. Yes, it's sad this owner missed out on a Marauder, but it seems he's going to enjoy the same performance, with a reduced investment.
Is the Vortech SC what Kenne Brown used on the original Panther S? And how loud is the Vortech SC under normal driving conditions? This happens often, it's Kenny Brown, or, Kenne Bell.
Kenny Brown is the first to supercharge a Panther frame automobile, nicknamed the "Lounge Lizzard" by Car and Driver back in '97. That CV was a 2V SHOC 4.6L engine with a Roots style Eaton blower. Unfortunately, this blower would nit fit under a stock Marauder hood, so, Kenny used a Vortech for the first Kenny Brown "S" car, the Marauder.
How does a Vortech drive under normal conditions? Ummm...I could write a book, but the short answer here is...How bad do you want to beat back anyone at the stoplight, with just your right toe?

what size rim. Because I think you need at least 18" to run 4.10's.
.here's why I don't share your viewpoint on that.....
You can have 16" or even 15" tires that are just as tall as our 18" ones. It all depends on the outside diameter spec of the tire in question. For instance, our Marauder 18" tires are 28.4" tall (aka the "outer diameter" dimension), but because they have a 55 series profile, there are also 15" tires which have that same tire height of 28.4" which have a 75 or 78 series profile, just as there are 16" tires with a 65 or 70 series profile with that same 28"+ outer diameter. So the rim size doesn't neccessarily make any difference. it's the outer diameter of the tires that are used that counts.

This would be something to see especially since 2005 CVs and GMs are now "drive by wire". Keep us posted on your progress.

Unless they changed it for the '03+ Crown Vic, then it would need the extended tailshaft housing. The standard Vic in the pre-'03 configuration, at least, had a shorter tailshaft housing. And anyone wanting to gears in one of those cars was suggested to change over to the extended tailshaft housing and go with a new driveshaft as the Vic seems to have more drivshaft problems once you go with the 3.73 or numerically higher gear ratio.
Again, I don't know if they changed that on the '03+ transmissions, but at least on the pre-'03 you need to do the tailshaft on the tranny.

Fly by wire is no problem at all with SCT software, There are lots of 05 GT running around with Vortech under the hood powered by SCT. And as we all know most Ford Lincoln Mercury in the future will also be fly by wire.

This is Zack posting under Dennis' name....
I left Chicago at 3pm Friday. I arrived at Dennis' front door at 10:15am Florida Time (1 hour ahead)
I think I made about 5 stops at rest areas, 1 stop at a Wendy's and a half hour layover at the Waffle House.
So the answer is yes, I made really good time.

Passenger side. Notice the cooling reservoir is in the front the first thing we did was put this back in the back on the passenger side to make room for the Supercharger.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/reloactedcoolingreivoir.jpg
The next thing we did is change out the stock single track rear end and replace it with a posi track with 410 gears, while the car was in the air we removed the OEM control arms and replaced them with a set of PHP upper and lower control arms along with a new ADDCO rear control arm.

This project really looks interesting, love the chrome bezel and shifter trim on the C/V, my guess is that the Vortech marriage to the 2V 4.6l should be a happy one, the 2v in my '95 C/V had more off the line grunt than my MM. when bone stock.
The Vortech should really open up the top end on the C/V, that's were the 2V engine is weak. I really look forward to the results and before and after dynos, maybe some of this technology will one day rub of on my C/V.
Im glad to see you are making good progress on this one Dennis.
Cant wait to see the finished product.

Here is a quick up date on the 05 CV LX Sport. I am waiting on the SC parts so we received the new wheels and they really look great, and these will work on the Marauder as well. I used the new Ronal 18x8 wheels with BFGP235/50/18 KDWS. We painted the rear calipers and are waiting on the KVR 14" brake kit as shown in the previous pictures, here are the pictures of the stock wheels and the new Ronal 18" we will be stocking these in the near future.

We will be installing the big brake kit later this week and hopefully next week will have the blower on.
This will be an interesting build, There ae a lot of 2v Stang GT's tearing up the streets and tracks and kicking some Cobra ass with Vortech's. :)

Here is an update on the 05 LX sport we are doing I am waiting on the KVR brakes and the Shorty headers, we have installed the blower and after cooler, you will notice the Air cleaner is on the inlet of the SC we are having a custom stainless steel shield made for this, you can do this because this car will be set up in a blow through configuration instead of a suck through, I will explain more about this later on.
Here is the larger water after cooler we use. http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/ac05.jpg
Here it is mounted in the car it bolts in to holes already in the car. http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1126188393-heatexch05.jpg
We use a large 2.5 gallon reservoir for the coolant http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1126188507-resivoir05.jpg
Here is the pump for the after cooler http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1126188669-pump05.jpg
And finally here is the engine shot we are having the pipe to the Throttle body made
then duplicated in 3" aluminum Mandrill bent. http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1126188833-top05.jpg

I thought I would explain why we decided to go with a blow through instead of a draw through Maf on this project car, the reason is the 05 Crown Vic Maf is the same as the 05 GT, this is a new design by Ford it takes a modular Maf element and they install this in a plastic Maf housing molded in as part of the air cleaner assembly.
This is a good Maf element with a very good calibration,so we had a local Machine shop make a cad drawing and machine an adapter so we can attach this on the 3" pipe coming from the after cooler going to the throttle body. This Maf element is also a six wire with a built in IAT, so the IAT is also in the correct spot for the supercharger, on the discharge side of the SC prior to the throttle body.
Now what is also different on the 05 CV is the heated PCV valve located on the passenger valve cover, its molded into the plastic valve cover, so what we did was install a separate PCV in line with the OEM PCV. The PCV we use is designed for SC cars and the plunger is a tapered conical plug so that when the car transitions from vacuum to boost, and the plunger is blown closed to prevent boost from entering the crank case. http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/pcv05.jpg
Now on the drivers side valve cover there is the ventilation side of the cars PCV system, that originally went to the tube from the air box to the throttle body, but this will now be pressurized from the SC, so it normally goes to the inlet of the SC, so in this case the air cleaner is very close to the SC so we added this oil separator, so that if any oil is drawn from the VC it is contained in the separator and can be drained out, Steeda sell this and puts it on the Cobra cars, we sourced the separator our selves it is the same one is used on our dyno AF sniffer to separate water vapor leaving the tail pipe.

Well, we are just now getting caught up from the car event last week, and we have started back on the 05 CV SC project. Today we had the exhaust installed, as you can see by the original pictures the CV LX Sport had the factory duels with H pipe.
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/session/00-00-1127771993-05stockhpipe.jpg

http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/05short.jpg
http://web.iwebcenters.com/reinhartautomotive/images/05STOCKWITHX.jpg
So we then installed Magnaflow mufflers, we had those jet coated to help on road salt, then we next installed new stainless steel tips without resonators since we retained the stock resonators to still keep the car quiet.

Well, here is the update, sorry about the delay we had a great event at the Gainesville Raceway, on Sept the 17 and we just got back from Indiana from the October Fest, while I was gone the guys installed the 14" KVR kit. These are cross drilled directionally vented rotors with aluminum hats, back with PBR aluminum twin piston calipers, and carbon fiber front and rear pads with stainless steel brake lines on all four corners. With a SCT B2400 the car pegged the Maf at 340 RWHP we just installed a B2800 its on the Dyno now ready for tomorrow.

This is a water to air kit, the same thing I use on the Marauder except I configured this car as a blow through, the pipe on the right was hand made and tiged welded Busters is going to duplicate it, the lower 3" tube behind the power steering reservoir is Busters an its the same thing I use on the Marauder this kit turned out very well, we are going to do a 06 Town car that has 2500 lbs of bullet proofing with in the next month. and I have another Monster motor build for a Marauder. I am going post those pictures next week.

Yeah me too, wish my 05 was done up like that!
Looks good!
Just wondering why your running it 11.5 on the air fuel, Thats real rich isnt it, im sure your giving up some power there.
Also what would that supercharger kit and gear swap run money wise?
Also would that set up be ok on a 05 P.I. car :D
