Ha, gotcha, this is not just another Sub thread.

I got the car back today, I had a custom ported enclosure made for my 10" Inifnity 10.1 dvc sub. It mounts right where the factory enclosure was, and is quite snug.

The amp is a JL Audio 250/1 its mounted on the other side of the spare tire, talk about tight. I didn't want to lose the spare...yet, so this is why we went this way. And the amp is in about the only place where we can have half a chance of making adjustments.

So we'll need to tweek on the sub adjsutment soem more, it booms jsut a bit too much right now, so we'll lower the gain a bit.

For the head unit I went with the Eclipse 5435, DVD, Navi, CD, Radio, etc etc. All in one unit Double DIN. Yes it fits, yes soem modification was needed. What was required? Well there is a lip on top, bottom and side where the OEM radio rests, the top lip was cut out, and custom Ford style side 'clips' were made to mount the unit. The installer also made a thin (less than 1/4") bezel around the face to make it cleaner. Thats it. nothing more difficult than that.

The shop is not an Eclipse dealer, but they are seriously considering after this install, this thing has so many features! Touch screen, etc etc.

I met up with Soulriot at a local PBSO event tonight and we were rocking out to the Bullit DVD, fast forward to the car chase....awesome. The image is so clean and.... I love this thing!:D:D:D

And bring yer DVD's!!

Oh and by the way, it has an ESN, thats a an electronic serial number, so I can lock the unit down, no password, no use to you!

Eclipse provides a one year warranty, if its stolen, they replace it at no charge.

I'm thinking "American Graffiti" would be appropriate.

The look is very nice and clean. The ease of use is really good aswell. Anyone considering a new head unit should look into this set up.

I want measurements of that box and where it's ported in you don't mind.

soon as I get a chance, the port is facing the front of the car, down low. I wanted to to vent up ithrough the opening but due to port length ad min. clearance this was the compromise.

It measures 10.25" high, 14" wide by nearly 18" deep.

I would try a sealed box first, and then go to vented if need be. I'll have to get an audio expert....Marc? To help adjsut/tweek the sub, its a little boomy for my taste right now...but then again thats when I've got the volume up to 11......

A local dealer offered me the Eclipse 5435 installed, total price out the door $2100 with a 3 year full warranty, would you say that is a fair price???

I beleive the dealers are selling them for $1899, plus they get $300 for install, so if your price incudes tax, then yes its a good deal. Plus the factory warranty is 1 year, so the extra 2 years is from the dealer. Worthwhile if they'll be in business 2 years from now.

Also check if they include the Steering wheel control adapter. The part costs about $60 direct via internet, they usually charge $120-150 plus install, If they do it for $120 installed, then I'd say okay.

So with that steering wheel adapter will this unit be as controllable from the wheel as the stock system? I'm picky about such things and I really want an after-market system that will work with the wheel controls. The system and install look fantastic! :bows:

Since I've seen this unit in action, I'll answer your question with a big YES on it still controlling the unit from the steering wheel. Because when the chase sceen hit Marc was right there using the control to make it louder.

Nice! Thanks. Gotta save my pennies for a stereo upgrade next spring/summer. Time to start doing my homework. :)

there is slight delay from when you press the wheel buttons to when the stereo reacts. I'd say its more like the change happens once you release he button versus when you first press it..

Its hardly noticeable, except your really checking every little thing out when you first get it.

I spent more than I've ever spent on a stereo, but I figure the car is worth it!

Exactly right! I never modded cars before I got this one, same reasoning there. These cars are worth it. Well said!
