So i called my local performance shop today to ask them for a price on installing 4.10s. Be it I already have the new gears, the shiney hiney, AND the stud kit. This lady proceeds to tell me that it is a money losing job that will take at least 8-10 hours to intall, and make perfect. She says it always takes longer than the book says. So she said the shop would do it only if I agreed to pay whatever it costs labor wise...which would be 75/hour @ 10 hours.....750+???? No fu**ing way!!!! There used to be a mustang shop in WPB that would do it for 500 flat...that INCLUDED gears. The shop is called TPS and they are in WPB...is this true??? Am I really going to pay at least 700$ for JUST install??? Or is this lady on crack??? I really want to get these installed, but performance shops in Palm Beach suck azz!!!!!!!!!!!

She's definately on crack. I had mine installed was supposed to cost $250.00, was only charged $200.00 because the guy said it was so easy. Try some of the Mustang boards for placed to get it done, unless someone chimes in here.

A few of the guys over there on the east coast used a place called Lamotta Performance ..... think they were pleased. A bit closer than Jacksonville if you don't want to go that far.

You could always try a local Ford or Mercury dealer. I think mine was $300 or so.

Depends. Mine did not. They have done almost all my mechanical mods for me. If you have a warranty claim on the rear end and they find the different gears you'd get your answer either way then anyway. Best to check first and see if they are "mod friendly". As long as you're putting in Ford parts and you have a Ford tech do the install, there shouldn't be any problems.

I had mine installed at RoyLPita's Ford dealership in Delray, but the guy that did mine is no longer there, and I dont know if they can still do side jobs there. As far as warrenty work, while Ghost03 had his 4.10s installed they noticed some axle wear, and did the TSB update with the kit. Get with RoyLPita, to see if he can help.

Yeah for a S/C...I just want gears installed. Id be better off having a dealer do it for the little extra $$$ if I was going to put 600+ miles on my MM and not have anywhere to go for the day. Really, if he lived within 50 miles away, I would, but I dont see driving that far for that...only if I lived in some hick town...thanx for the advice though......
Try auto sleuth in Tequesta.

They are just South of Teqesta Drive on Cypress. They have done tires, SFC's, exhaust on my stang, but I have talked to Tim quite a bit about future work. He is meticulous and knows his poop. He was doing a rear axle in an upscale Cobra Kit car when I was there last.

Wow, that's crazy.
If you have an SVT dealer in the local area, I'd give them a try. That Shiney Hiney you got from Wes is a Ford part with another name on it, and the performance Mustang dealers install them all the time. They have the equipment and expertiece to do the job correctly, and you'll get a warrenty on the work to boot. :twocents:

She's high on crack. Find somebody else to do it. Sounds like they don't want your business.

I made a 200 mile round trip to have mine installed. $460 install/parts out the door.
Carfixer would take you across to the other coast....Ft. Myers I believe.
Look a little deeper for a local high performance shop. Particularly a Mustand shop.
A tech whom does this type of work every day can do it in 4-5 hours.
I did a basic search for performance shops in your area.

Try UPR in Boynton beach, they used to isntall gears, reasonable and always perfect. If your willign there is always Carfixer, he'll do right by anyone or find you someone who is the best.

What ^^^He^^^ said. My dealer did mine too. Said waranty shouldn't be a problem as long as they were FMS gears.
Too many of these so called speed shops are a rip off no matter where you go. Most I've seen (that sell parts too) charge twice as much for the same parts you can order from Summit or Jeggs, and stick it to you on the labor too. $700 is :bs: for a gear install.
Had Bucky Austin's ProMax in Tacoma install Mrs Teamrope's resonator delete tips, and they came out a little un even. They also rub on the bumper. For the price of the install I purchased a nice wire feed welder and installed my own on my car. They are strait and they don't rub on anything.
I'm not sure where Carfixer lives, but he's an ASE certified tec at a L/M dealer somewhere down in FLA, and knows these cars as well as anyone. Has a nice DTR too. :burnout:

If not possible, then the clock start running ...). My Auburn and gear took almost 4 hours if i recall correctly and we had hard time taking the axles with torch persuasion.

To each their own... I'd go see Dennis just to see Dennis and see what he has going on.
If the $700 shop can't get it right for $250-$300 then it isn't about money... they just don't know what they are doing.
