Claims to have beaten a WHITE Marauder. Now I see guys badging their cars to be Marauders, so I'm guessing its a poser. I've seen the black, blue, and silver but never any white ones.
You guys would know, did they ever make them?

No Sir,
They Made them in Black, Dark BLue Pearl Metallic, Silver Birch, Dark Toreador Red and a very limited number of Candyapple Green, but those were only available before brefas

It's always fascinating to read other car enthusiasts opinion and knowledge of Marauders.
No white Marauders. At least none from the latest generation. I don't know much about the old ones, however I doubt the GTP enthusiasts know about them.

No. There were Black, Blue, Red and Silver from the factory. Although there is a chance it had been repainted (Slime green seems to have been at least one owner's choice) it is more likely that it was some other Panther platform car.

It may have been Silver Birch, mistaken for white, but there were never any factory ones, white. :)

There was also a Purple Marauder (or was it lavender metallic) :) with gull wing doors posted here long ago !! Of course, it probably started life as a black or a blue. :( We will probably never know.

Thanks guys! Most Gtp enthusiasts know about your Marauders, of course the Gtp community is growing younger and younger. The youngins tend not to like the big cars nor understand the need to go fast in a big comfortable car.:shake:
Let me know when the prices start to drop on your cars, I still want one some day.;)

Darkside,
I clicked over to the forum and read it through. This guy is smoking ditchweed. There were NEVER any white Marauders; believe me, more than one person has asked that question, and a few of the board members here have fantasized on the idea. This guy didn't go after a Marauder.
NOW...it's very easy to mistake a Crown Vic for a Marauder. The taillight configuration is the same; I've heard it said that in fact the Marauder line actually uses the rear body clip from the CV's. In determining whether or not you've just been whupped by a MM, look for the following:
---Rear fascia unique to the MM. It will have cutouts for the dual exhaust and the name "MARAUDER" clearly stamped into the bumper cover.
---The dual exhaust itself. Marauders come from the factory with 3" Megs SS tips; if you actually get a chance to see a MM standing still sometime, look under the rearend and you'll see the factory welds where they added them on. As an additional note, this detail, BY ITSELF, is not enough to distinguish the car; aftermarket suppliers have these particular tips for sale to Crown Vic/Gee-Mark owners. Use caution in calling it an MM if this is the only detail you can see!
---Uni-color bodies. The only chrome on the bodywork will be around the side windows, and some owners have "fixed" that. Check that---most owners will still have the chrome "waterfall" Mercury trunk badge and identical grill badge. The picture posted on your thread shows a car with chrome accents around the door handles---NOT A MARAUDER. The only colors that Marauders were available in were: Black (the predominant color), Silver Birch, Dark Toreador Red, and Dark Pearl Blue. The Silver Birch models will have blacked-out grilles; all other colors will be full-body only. Additionally---once again, if you actually find one standing still---the interior colors were ONLY available in Dark Charcoal or Light Flint, and the interiors were ONLY leather. No cloth.
---The rims. Marauders come factory stock with 18x8 5-spoke polished (somebody check me on this) aluminum rims. Some owners have put other rims on there; during the winter months CV Police Interceptor steel wheels have been seen in use as the stock rims don't react well to salt. But by and large, the 5-spokers are mainly used and UNIQUE TO THE VEHICLE.
---The stance. Marauders come with different series tires, F/R. Fronts are 50 series, rears are 55 series, and the idea there was to induce a "hiked" hotrod look to the car.
---This detail will be the hardest to see: The foglights. Marauders all came from the factory with 80mm Cibies mounted well down on the front fascia, and the cutouts wrap around to the side. IF you can get a glance at the front end and it's packing foglights---most likely a Marauder.
And the last way you can tell it was a Marauder?
It just beat you. :D

Hey lets not get crazy, your probably going to need FI to beat me.;) I know the Marauder fairly well, and was a whisker away from buying a leftover new one last year. I just couldn't imagine driving one in the winter in my area.
I was very impressed with the car, just wish it had some more balls right from the factory. I used to own a Impala SS years ago, and liked the feel and drive of the Marauder over it.

I too read the whole thread, and either the person he raced repainted his MM, or it was a CV/GM look-a-like. A CV Sport with the Meg's tips, MM wheels and MM corners will look very similar to the MM. The CV has cutouts for dual exhaust, just not as prominent as the MM. The only other strange thing is I don't recall seeing a white CV Sport either?
As for the Mom's car, MMs don't have the chrome/black handles, they are body color. Ditto the B-pillars, they are body color as well. If you look closely at the front/rear seats, you don't see the "French" stitching, nor the embossed God's head on the fronts. Plus the front seat headrests are a different shape. So I'm not sure if his Mom's is a MM either? It does look like it's Silver, though.

Sadly, I think they've got a case of a young man who's painted himself into a corner. His Mom doesn't drive a Marauder but he's gone too far now to back down and admit the truth. I was young once and did many, many stupid things. Sometimes I still do...I think I would be more likely to report having seen Elvis having a beer with Bigfoot than the white Marauder- it's just more plausable.

There are people on these boards in the low 14's with out FI. Simple things can be done to really bring these cars to life. 4.10 gears, re-tune, intake, exhaust upgrades, pullies, etc, all those can go a long way. And none of these things adversely affect driveability - it's a shame it didn't come that way stock!
We make plenty of power stock, just econo gearing :( and maybe a bit heavy at 4200lbs. :)
With FI people can make it below the mid 11's. Not bad for 4200lb's. :)
GP's are cool cars too though, I used to have a Grand Am, had considered trading it in for a GP GTP but honestly I had some bad experiences with GM's design flaws in the Grand Am and that made me shy away from another GM product for the time being...it's sad, but it's GM's fault.

That looks like a GM in the picture...
Don't be too surprised though, they can have things done to them too and be made pretty quick. There are a few quick CV's and GM's here on this board. They have the modular 4.6 2v like the Mustang GT's (pre-2005) so there are mods that can be done to make them quicker.
I still laugh...one night I was with my friend in his '98 Town Car, totally stock. We had the windows down and were getting the stink-eye from some young kid (ok I'm 24...) who was with his girlfriend in a hopped up Miata. (I like Miata's, btw, poor Miata had a jerk driving it.) Anyway, my friend dusted him pretty good in his grandpa-like Town Car, the guy in the Miata was visibly PISSED and his girlfriend was shaking her head.
Both of us were promptly whipped by a '70 GTO. THAT was cool.

It's a GM. The seats don't sport our embossed logo, either.
Tell the guy from us that he is officially on crack. Had he gone up against a real MM he would have known, because he could read the back bumper cover when he got smoked.
From a standstill a stocker is a bit of a dog, but from a roll when this car hits its powerband, it can run pretty darn well.

Intresting that he says:
It was that color. It was a Marauder!!!!!!!!!!!!! Had the badging, pipes and the rims for sure
What badging? Oh, the waterfall on any Grand Marquis? also lacks mentioning the words "MARAUDER" on the bumper.
Funny the other kid doesn't even know what his mom drives. Those headrests are the last generation pill types, you can see them on past Grand Marquis, Crown Vics and Crown Vic P71s. We also have NO chrome around the handles, unless added, and our handles are painted body color and not flat black.

In regards to the issue at hand, I just hope it has been made clear how easy it is to convert a GM or CV to a Marauder look-a-like. How many V6 Mustangs have you seen with a "COBRA" rear bumper? Doesn't mean you smoked a Cobra.
From what I've seen, stock for stock, a GTP is probably quicker than a stock Marauder. Each car has potential from that point on, and it's anyones guess once mod's are added. I've seen some very quick GTP's but at the same time there are plenty of screamin' Marauders...
But more to my point, it's not hard to fake a Marauder with a CV or GM. A Marauder rear bumper that can be acquired, a dual exhaust cat back, and everyone thinks you have a white Marauder.
I for one am not going to bash the Grand Prix and I hope none of the GP guys bash the Marauders. I'd also hope the same goes for us here. GP's can be made quick, and I respect that. General Motors *should* have made them RWD but I won't even go there. :)
But, I'm a fan of cool cars.
And hey, a GP isn't a HONDA.

I wouldn't trade my Marauder for one, but I have seen modified GTP's pull mid-12's in the 1/4 mile. That's pretty darn respectable for FWD V6.
Of course for the cost of those mod's a Marauder will do mid 11's and leave a cooler burnout. :)
But I'm not bashin', it's just what I like. :)

There's always souped up everythings...there is Datsun B210 that pulls wheelies at the track I attend. Big deal. It has no interior and breaks every other weekend.
The only Pontiac I respect out of quality build, nice interior, and plenty of power is the GTO. The rest are just in the mix of look fast cars with fart cans to make them sound fast as well.

I agree that thread has some people bashing our cars and misunderstanding them, and yes there are plenty of GP's that are nothing. I've come up against a few, and there wasn't much to it.
Just want to make sure we give respect when it's due though. I'd hate for them to see this thread and think we're going to bash their cars without reason. I've seen it happen so many times, the debates just boil down to pointless fights about which car is better, when there's things on each that are good.
I still have a preference though, which is why I'm posting here. :) :) :)

This reminds me when I got my Maruader, I was still going to the Grand Am forums. Some people there mis-read one of my posts as bashing the new GTO. I had merely stated they just sorta rebadged an existing car that was the same style as it was when it came out in Australia in 1997, and by doing so they weren't really doing the GTO all the justice they could do.
What ensued was a bunch of "you drive an old mans car" and "where's your depends!".
I then reminded them the fasted 99'+ Grand Am was only in the 13's and this Grandpa car could easily embarrass them.
So respect IS a two way street, as much as I want to talk about it, it IS a two way street...

I guess my reply was more in regards to the ones I see every friday at the local track. Getting up there in miles, and driven by KIDS. None of these ran deeper than 14.
The only Pontiac I respect out of quality build, nice interior, and plenty of power is the GTO. The rest are just in the mix of look fast cars with fart cans to make them sound fast as well.

I WILL give the GP guys one thing for this particular model year: the GP GXP. 5.3L V-8 (327 cid), the "paddle-shift" option on the automatic, and all the other options...really good car. Test drove one a few months back and woulda taken it home that day, but the dealer was a d-ck and told me my MM was only worth pennies. This after telling he had no idea what a MM was...

I'm glad they only made about 10,000 or so Marauders.
Here's the rub. Mustangs sell 15,000 plus a month because they're selling six-bangers to people that want to look like they own a fast car or just like the body style. Production numbers for the real performance models like the Cobra's or Mach I's are low like the Marauders too.
I just don't understand all the *****ing from guys that own one and complain that they're not still making them. Guys that don't own one, well sorry about your luck. I don't own an 02 Mach I either. Maybe they'll make one for the new model.
And maybe they'll make Marauders again too. Electric hybrids with 350 HP even. Or supercharged 3v motors with CVR trannys. Who knows?

Surely you jest, Sir:eek: ...Mercury wants to make money selling cars. They wanted to sell 18,000 of these cars at $30K+- did that happen? No.
In general, the L/M dealer network knew very little about selling or servicing a performance vehicle customer.
The car was marketed poorly- How many folks do you meet that have never heard of the Marauder? They love it when they see it- Why didn't they see it when it was available?
The acknowledgement by Mercury that the vehicle has "limited appeal" is simply "spin" for their abandonment of the performance market.

Indeed he is high on something.
Doesn't matter what color he thinks he saw....I have matched up with all sorts of GTP'S GTP-X's....whatever....
They're all driver dreamers...and slow.....:shake:
Now you are starting to suck into the same mentality that some over on clubgp have. Just because YOU have run into slow ones, doesn't mean they all are. I'll gladly run you in my Regal which is the same as the GP, and yes I'm in the Cleveland area. Minus your nitrous run, we have similar times except your about 3-4mph short on the trap. My car isn't anywhere near being heavily modded. My old gp ran 12.7@106 and is damn slow compared to what others are now running.
As far as the poster that said MM's could run 11's for what GP's need to run 12's, I highly disagree. As much as some Gp owners might not know about your cars, some of you might not be very knowledgable on the Gp's capabilities.
Stock Gtp's should run mid 14's with a good launch. $500 in mods will easily obtain mid to high 13's. For the guys serious into modding, 11's are now the norm compared to 12's from a few years ago. There are now several cars in the 10's which are daily drivers without using nitrous.
I think the perception occurs since there are about ten billion Gp's on the road and the number of modded ones are low compared to the production number. Again, I would own a MM right now if driving in snow wasn't an issue. My wife loved driving the MM and we again talked last night about getting one. But its not feasible living in the snowbelt.

Wow!! That sounds very familiar with another attempt Mercury had advertising a high performance vehicle. See my other Ford forgotten vehicle. The Merkur XR4Ti. They said it was going to be a BMW killer back in 1985. Well, it killed them on the tracks in Europe, but was such a poor seller in the US/Canada. Only 46,000 XR's were sold from 1986-89. 1989 is the rarest with only 199 being made.
Here's some reasons why it didn't sell:
Can you say Merkur correctly? It's not "Murker", it's "Mare-coor".
Target buyers were 25-35 year olds. Back then if you didn't have a walker, you had no reason to walk into a Lincoln/Mercury dealership.
Salesman had no clue about the car. They would rather sell a TC with more profit on it than sell the XR.
I could go on, but you guys already know the rest of the story...

http://used-cars.autos.yahoo.com/usedcars/detail/index.html?cid=automobiles-185300517&dst=11.76&rsr=c2JyPXRleGFzLWRhbGxhcy1tZX JjdXJ5LW1hcmF1ZGVyLXVzZWQtY2Fy cw--
Looks like he simply stopped by a car lot or saw it online just as I did. The picture is recent and it defiantly is not white :P
BTW, he claims his mother has had it so long that he had a 'old' picture of back when he owned that red car. This car is very black and very for sell.

ROFL!
BTW whoever buys it, maybe they'll come to this site, see this thread, and realize their car has an interesting "online" history... :)

and to be honest, around these parts, it is mostly girls driving them.......the ones trying to relive their youth. (kinda like the 'grandpa's driving MM  :burnout: ;) )That would be grandpa's driving Vettes:laugh:

Thanks for proving that every board has its share of morons.
I guess this is what you were referring to.
Back to the main point...even if it WAS a real Marauder, chances are it would have been stock, and therefore a GTP likely would have handed it its portly 4x4-suspended ass ;) You guys can go home to your taxicabs now, and for the CV guys, driving around with boners for thinking you make people think you're cops. SHERIFF anyone?

Well, it's closed now. That assclown really needs some serious help.
Anyone near Hunstville or Ft. Jackson, TX?
We need a driveby . . . uh, verification of the fact that this idiot does not have a Marauder.

I can't believe that he still won't give it up. That picture he posted looked like a CV to me, oh well. Unfortunately a large portion of gp owners are becoming younger and dumber.
Bottom line, keep the MM's resale value up so morons can't afford them. Except next spring, when I might get one.:D

I called the ad from work before I left, I spoke to some kid who confirmed that a Black Marauder with leather seats was for sale for $20,000 but I needed to call back later to talk to his mom.
We don't need any further verification. Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me. I was going to give this idiot the benefit of the doubt. Then he decided to call me a f@g and a b!tch.
So screw him. I ended up reporting that to the forum moderator. I'm through with this game.

Wow, I stopped reading the other thread after page 2, I guess i missed alot, better catch up on my reading. From the sounds of it my talk about mutual respect for vehicles wasn't heard over there...then again I posted here, probably the place that doesn't require it.

Hang around, you'll see it here too. I promise...

There were 2 on the GP site that claimed white marauders. The first one was 1ChunkyGPX that said he had the "white" marauder kill, who finally later gave it up and realized he was owned. Bearkat was the one who said his mommy had a "white" marauder and never gave it up, even after it was proved he was owned. It was quite entertaining reading. I had alot of laughs.
