This will be a good time to test the skid plates we got from Dennis. I think it would be helpful, for those of us who installed them, to keep accurate records of MPG on the 2 X Detroit trip. Highway miles are where these things should make a difference, what with the drag shoot bumper flapper gapper being closed.

Just a quick check of mine revealed what I think was a big improvement, with a solid 24MPG on a very spirited dash via the mountain route to Snow Shoe, with many WOT romps on back roads. Since it was only 140 miles I'm not ready to tell everyone they need to order this little jem, but the round trip to Detroit should tell the story. After looking at the area between the fuel tank and the bumper, it only makes sense that things should make a difference.

If your's is still in it's box, please put it on before you come to Detroit. I've posted the revised, best install instructions a few days ago, which makes putting it on, a snap. :)

With/without back to back tests should be interesting.

It might just provide an offset for your fully loaded trunk, Mike !!! ;)

I installed mine but did not due a mpg on a long orad trip.

I did notice several CV with the flappy rear bumper. Several GM with the double ribbed rear bumper did not flap.

My rear bumper was starting to sag in the middle.

So hold on, let me get this straight, you install this set of plates to strength up your rear bumper and it gives you a soild 24 mpg on the highway? Where is this miracle item listed on Dennis's website? I've only been able to get maybe oh I'd say 15 mpg around town. I'm I've only had my car for a week though. I've yet to hit a serious highway trip so I may hit the big 2-0 mark! What's a good cruising speed btw? I got 3.55s and I'm thinking of doing 70/75 the whole way up and the car is Silver Birch.

I'm Zoltan's neighboor btw, I'm not sure if you guys know him but he post a lot here supposively. How much does this kit cost? Steven most of the guy's here don't know my first name. They know me as Cobra25. SergntMac has a good idea, Read his post and let's see how it works out first.

Dennis made no such claim, but during the install I was horrified to notice the rear facia looks like a large drag thingey, what with the huge gap, and wind catching potential of that flapping monstrocity.

It just makes sense to me, that closing up that gap and keeping the facia from catching air, will result in fuel savings. :dunno:

Again, the idea/claim/blame about fuel savings was my idea, and not based upon any claim by Dennis, or the manufacturer, but an observation on one single trip. That's why I thought it a good idea for the guys going to Detroit, who have 'em to keep track of fuel consumption. At today's fuel prices, if my guess is correct, Dennis is gonna have a hard time keeping the things in stock. :D

If your fuel consumption goes UP, (gets worse) then it's all Dennis' idea/fault. :hide:

PS: Silver Birch is good for at least, 3-4 MPG. (everybody knows the're faster)

Here's the link to photos and price >>> Skid Plate (http://www.mercurymarauder.net/forums/showthread.php?t=18547&page=1&pp=15&highlight=plate) :D

Price listed in post #78 was $35.00 plus S&H a couple months ago. Not sure if that price is still the standard.

Can the 'tude and you may find that you'll get a little more help !!

Okay thanks for the info. Greatly appreciated. Oh yeah, Silver Birch is faster j/k. I'll try to lay back on the comments too in the future.

Steven, I think it was ~$60 to the door. Barb keeps the books, I just order stuff. (She just said $65)

I'm gonna top off the tank just at the Snow Shoe exit in the morning, and fill it back up when I get to Barry's. That run on I-80 with cruise control on and 70MPH should be about as good a test as I can give it. Do I hear 26MPG?

About the "tude thing" no offence taken here; but you'll notice a no flame, politeness being the rule, and a little good natured ribbing works for most of us. I suspect it's why this board sets the standard, and why many of us hang out here. :)

Mike,
All packed and ready to go. See you at Barry's tomorrow and then onward to Marauderville III. :banana2:

I'll track my gas for you .... for a with/without comparison. Of course, this will probably be the biggest load in the MM since I've had it.
