View Full Version : What Polish/Wax do you use?

Architect

Some where back down the road I started using "NU FINISH" ....
According to them: "The once a year car polish"...Orange plastic bottle....it's a thick liquid...the say it's a "space age polymer"...
It really does go on easier and hand buff off easier than anything I've ever used.
In the old days when I had "sports cars"...I used paste waxes that had Cornuba
(spelling?) in it...Pain in the rear to put on and take off...
Anyway the point of this is....WHAT WAXES OR POLISHES DO Y'ALL USE...???
Especially the Owners of the BLACK Marauders....
This should be interesting....

I use many different products, mostly before putting on a coat of wax. But since you only ask wax, I use Meguiars NXT Generation. I tend to stick with the Meguiars product line except when it comes to the clay bar - only because I have not found it on the shelf. When it comes to clay bar, use Clay Magic and don't waste your money on Mothers. Just my opinion, yours may differ.

I'll stop....continue on thread...

I have to agree with ZAINO. That is all I use now. First application is a little time consuming, but quite easy from there.

I use Meguiars NXT Generation also. Easy on,Easy Off and its a Great shine! I used stuff from car shows, Zymol, Eagle one "Wet",etc.
However, for shows or for a cruise on the weekend, Gliptone "Show Gloss" Is one of the best shines I have seen so far but, After a car Wash or two, Kiss the protection goodbye.

When I'm doing a fresh cycle from the base paint, it goes something like this:

1. wash
2. clay bar
3. wash
4. speed glaze
5. deep polish
6. 2 coats of NXT Liquid wax

Once that foundation is set, touch up after subsequent washes with a coat or two of NXT Spray wax. If I'm feeling too lazy to do a full wax, then just some touch ups using NXT Detailer spray.

I have used Collinite, Meguiars, Blue Coral and Zaino.

I like Zaino the best!

The initial application is time consuming, but subsequent applications are easier/quicker!

We have a great car wash in town that does not touch the car and gets it super clean. Than I follow up with Meguire's Quik Detail.

I use Mothers California Gold exclusivly. (Phase 1, 2, and 3). Absolutely no silicone. Ever! The Mothers Power Ball is awesome on the wheels. I highly recomend it! Zymol on the interior leather. No complaints!

After 3 years of burning up American OTR blacktop meeting friends in sun-lit parking lots and midnight drag strips, I need a paint job.

No use in lying about it, my MM looks like crap compared to what I saw today, and these guys have been OTR for two days now.

So, wax, detail, washing...What ever, doesn't mean much to me anymore, guess it's time to fine a professional.

Hope I can find one who shoots 10W30...LOL!

Turtle Wax Liquid, goes on easy, comes off easy, protection last. I do touch up's with Turtle Wax Liquid Spray Wax, that is what I use on all the glass, wheels and tail pipes.

In my opinion--your so cool with your thoughts , here , there, and everywhere -I'm kinda that way too--just not as much as you have been - I want to --cause I have alot to say and bring up--but can't seem to always put in it the same prespective as you do--thats what I mean by cool--like my older brother-knows what I mean--but says it knowingly(sp)

Anyway--Your need for a paint job is on target with your car and its tributes---(meets and runs)--so no doubt this would (subject) come up soon--
And to add to the fun --you threw in the "oil" item--well--that just got me :lol and all over the floor--had to say it ---I may not answer everyones post as much as I would like to-- --but believe me--when I say I understand what is said and is being discussed --I do--I'm just not as fast as others in responding as I want to be-----hope we can meet some more some day Mac---Tom==Sorry for this Hi-Jack---deposit it somewhere--Tom

While the site is not Marauder related, it does seem to have some nice information on detailing. I would love to give the wife's Five Hundred a complete detail like that:

I still like the Mothers 3 step the best. Have been trying Meguiars NXT recently but just don't like it yet. To me it's a little harder to put on and take off than a carnauba wax and it hasn't seemed to have lasted all that well through the washes. The NXT does provide the slipperiest shine though. I used to use a famous wax out of the LA area when I lived there called Harley Wax from Long Beach, CA. It is a pure carnauba paste wax that is killer - easy to put on and take off with a very nice shine. I don't know if it's still around. I have some left over I still use once in awhile.

Have any of you NXT fans had the problem of getting streakiness while removing it by hand? I'm having trouble with that. Maybe I'm putting on too much?

Only problem I have had with the Zaino is using the new Z5 formula on the wife's 500. I have had a really hard time removing it. I think the new Z5 is a little more dependant on good, mild temp and humidity. I am going to go back to trying some Z2 on it the next time around and see if that is any better. And, yes, I do apply it after a good wash and out of the sun. I have heard that the Z2 is not as picky about the weather. Although Iowa weather has been pretty decent the last few days.

NXT is the best that i've used so far. Wash, clay bar and 2 coats of NXT. Usually an 8 hour job.

Zaino mostly these days.

Still use this too if I don't want to mess with multiple coats/drying time etc etc :

I use Meguiar's NXT on the MM, but I use Nu Finish on everything else. I like the fact that the Nu Finish beads for a LONG time before you have to reapply. BTW, Nu Finish is a silicone based polish, not a wax.

Well this has been really interesting...I hope for everyone else too...:)
Looks like "Zaino" is in the lead, but "NXT" is hard on his heels...
I still don't understand this Clay Bar thing, but I'm going to look into it...:help:
Is it a wax remover (Wax Off:D )....Is it safe on the finish?
What all do you use it on?
Anyway...this has been most informative...
I shall toast you all this evening for adding to the thread....

I use a clay bar on the entire car excluding the tire and glass. It cleans off surface contaniments (and wax) not removed by washing. It's a bit labour intensive but worth it. Meguiars makes a kit that includes two bars and a bottle of the quickdetailer.

Ditto. Works great on wheels and glass too, but I follow the glass up with glass polish.

I hear some speed shops carry it,... but I've never seen it on the shelf.
