Thanks to the info given on this site I became aware of the paint defects on my 2003 black MM. Common white spots on roof , trunk and hood. Called dealer and was told paint warrantee only good for 12k miles. I said not so, what happened to the 3 year 36k miles bumper to bumper warrantee. I was told to call the Ford 800#. I was told by ford that 12k was for enviormental issues and to have the car inspected by the dealer. Before I took it to the dealer I stopped by the body shop they use. Owner inspected the car and argreed the spots were not warrantee but he found paint cracks on all three surfaces. This is a covered defect and the dealer had the car repainted under warrantee. Picked up the car yesterday and it looks great. Anyone with paint issues should look for the cracks and not complain about the spots.

I had a Black Clear coat Mercury Cougar XR7...1989...V6 with factory supercharger....great car...
Paint started to go right away...
They repainted it under warantee...looked good....
Of course it's not clear coat on a repaint....
The repaint job literally flaked of in about 2 years...worst prep job ever done...
They just wanted to get me out of their hair and out of warantee...
Hope yours is better...

I had the same concens and thought they may job it out to the lowest bidder. The shop they used is an independent quality shop. They even buffed out the entire car so it all looks new. I don't know what they did back then but now they clear coat the car. Maybe I just got lucky.

Take a good look for cracks in the paint. Tiny hairline cracks maybe hard to see until you realy look hard. I was only concerned with the white spots and did not even know to look for the cracks. Body shop manager said this has been a problem on black cars from ford. Hope this helps your situation.
