Today I recieved a ticket for my windows being too dark...It got me thinking how stupid it is to waste time for that. I was just curious to hear the stories from all of you of some of the dumbest tickets you or someone you know have recieved....I for one know someone who recieved a ticket for having a pinetree air freshner on their rearview mirror. The cop said it was obstructing his view.

I got a ticket for refusing to pay a parking meter. I mean, it was midnight and I was only going to be at the place for an hour or so. That ticket cost me $30.

Royal Oak, Michigan. Heavy snowstorm. The parking lot had been plowed, but there was an inch or so accumulation on the ground and the snow was piled 6-8 feet deep at the forward end of each open space.
I parked, as I do at most lots, as far away from the "business" end of the lot as I could possibly park.
I was tickected for parking in a handicap space. The sign was buried and not visible, and the blue lines on the pavement were under snow.
You should have heard me %^#@! when I went back to the car!
I was so peeved, I steered clear of Royal Oak for the rest of the winter. Hell, who am I kidding, I haven't been back there since!

Back in NJ ...

Me & the wife were out & on the way home one eve.

We were making reubens for a late dinner that eve, & we didn't have any russian or thousand island dressing.

Pull up in front of the supermarket, she jumps out to go in & get that. Nothing more nothing less. Figuring she is only running in & out ... I decided to just stay there & wait for her(car running - me in it - parking lights on). Yea it was marked as a fire zone ... but it wasn't as if I were leaving the car UNATTENDED.

A cop is driving thru the parking lot towards me & is making motions at me as he passes.

First thought that came to mind was ... maybe he want's me to move(no problem). Before I could even THINK about moving ... he whips around - gets behind me & jumps out of the car.

License - registration - insurance.

Runs them - comes back & says to me ...

The typical ..... "what you doing ? - where ya been ? - where ya going ? - blah blah blah".

Then ... "This is a fire zone, why didn't you move when I told you too ?".

I reply ... "I was getting ready to move, but it appeared you were going to approach me, so at that point I felt it was best I stay put".

Him - "I told you to move ... how about showing some respect ?"

Me - "Ummmmm ..... with all due respect I thought I did nothing short of that by NOT pulling away & making you come after me, when it was obvious you wished to speak to me".

Long story short ...

An 8oz bottle of salad dressing cost me like $54.00(parking in a fire zone ticket).

Rookie boy must have felt like a real man that day.

Yeah, but...How about a stop, a ticket, and a fine...For 1 mile over the speed limit? 56 MPH in a posted 55MPH zone.

I talked about this episode here over two years ago, but it doesn't hurt to refresh it today. 1 MPH over the posted limit will get you stopped, issued a citation, and you will pay the scheduled fine. "56 miles per hour is 26 dollars on the schedule. VISA, or, MasterCard, sergeant?".

Where was I stopped, and by whom?

First correct answer earns a copy of our exclusive MM.Net Marauder audio CD, with songs and tunes we picked for ourselves here two years ago. Maybe I'll throw in an exclusive (and rare) Marauder two-sided poster, just to sweeten the pot?

For sure now, we'll see our MM.Net search engine get some exercise...

Post #2:

"Thanks for the tip, you're not alone in your feelings, or, experience. I got nabbed by Wisconsin Highway Patrol a few years back, and when I showed him my ID for a little "professional courtesy" he said "56 miles an hour in a 55 zone, is 26.25 on the bail schedule, Visa or Mastercard?" He was right, 1 mile over was on his schedule. After the business was wrapped up, he added "think what you want, but you were speeding, and that's all I need." Again, he was right."

Do I win???:D

Sorry, the search engine has been my friend ever since I joined last November. Unfortunately, I don't live in the US, the CD and poster would've been cool unless you'd like to mail it north of the border?

Thats easy. WISCONSIN!!!

Illinois has the toll road, we got the State Patrol.

Like wolves among the sheep as they cross the border going north. There have been a number of high profile cases of our crack law enforcement "unfairly" targeting Illinois plates over the last couple of years.

Draw box from Milwaukee to Madison south to the state line and east back to Lake Michigan. Speed traps are EVERYWHERE in this area. Once north of this box the State Patrol is a little more even handed. (Read: They pull over everyone, not just Illinois plates)

Just wanted to warn those who might be unaware.

Hey Rob....sorry to hear about your misfortune buddy. Was a little surprised to see it was the FHP that wrote you up though, sounds more like something one of the little "Hooterville" departments would get all excited about. Honestly didn't think FHP fooled around with petty B.S. stuff like that unless it was in addition to other, more serious stuff. Although I truly understand your feelings about the heat and glare issues you mentioned in the other thread, I gotta agree with Sgt Mac's advise here; if the highway patrol burned you on this then the other (more petty) burb outfits around where you live are going to write you up for it too eventually. Do you really need the hassles amigo?? :shake: :shake:. P.S. Was any mention made of the "Pompanette" during your conversation with the troopers?:D

Hwy 58 South in Iowa coming into CF. Now I WAS doing 5 over, and I was OK with that since it's my fault and all. I get stopped. I pull over and stop right next to the "55 MPH" sign as the speed changes from 65 MPH.

I get the ticket and sign it, get home and realize he had written it for the 55 MPH zone, so I now had a ticket for 15 over.

Yay.

It was that day I ordered my first radar detector ever, and I have since upgraded and will not drive w/o one. Now they don't get me for speeding anymore.

They just make up bogus tickets like "passing contrary to sign." My violation on that one? I *touched* the double line on my way back into my lane. (officer's words). He won in the "his word vs. mine" in court, but I made him waste half a day doing it.

The one about the handicapped space made me remember I had nearly the EXACT same thing happen in college.

Last day before Christmas break - Friday at about 5:30. Dark, middle of a snowstorm. I pulled into what WAS a loading zone to go grab some stuff from the music building - took me 10 minutes. I had done this many times all year.

I come out and find a ticket for parking in a HC space - then it was only $25. I get all pissed. Look up at the "loading zone" sign and brushed it off. They had changed it THAT DAY to a HC spot and the sign was covered in snow. So was the blue square under the car.

I guess ignorance is not an excuse. That guy must have sat there all day waiting to give out tickets. I bet he got several students as many did the same thing I did - park there to grab their stuff on the way out of town.

Here's another one - same college, same year. (though I didn't get one of these) About 60 students park in a student lot and leave their cars there to ride home with friends for T-day break on the Tuesday prior. They come back to school Sunday night or Monday morning to find a $15 ticket on each vehicle FOR EACH DAY THEY WERE GONE.

On Wednesday the university had changed the lot from a student lot to a visitor's lot. Fine for student use - $15.

Not a single student won their appeal. This one was a major newspaper article at the time. It got some public safety workers (campus cops) pelted with snowballs a few days later.

Speeding 2 KPH over the limit. I was pegged on one of those automated radar traps in Germany. The Germans tracked down my rental car and sent me the ticket (in German of course) to my home in the states.

To this day I'm not 100% positive I paid it correctly. So I may find out the hard way that I have an outstanding bench warrant against me in Germany.

I got 2 tickets from 1 cop at the same time- one for improper start (peeling out in dirt in a constuction zone to get across an intersection) and the other for going too fast for conditions. They both got dimissed due the cop not showing up to court.

Hi all,

For Father's Day, my son (then 16) and my wife got the windows tinted in my Marauder (back and sides, not front). It was around $150 and was dark (like limo tint). It looked really good, though with my black car. We had no problem for a couple of months and then on a trip to visit her parents in Panama City, FL she was ticketed in Santa Rosa County by Trooper Snow of the Florida Highway Patrol. He had been on the side of the road apparently giving some poor guy a ticket. My wife, as she should, moved to the inside lane giving a wide berth to the FHP. The next thing she knows he's pulling her over. When he approched her window and saw her, our daughter-in-law, and grandson in the car he seemed flustered like he had been expecting to see something much different. He recovered and asked for her license, registration, and proof of insurance. After he got her license and while she was looking for the registration, etc. he proceeded to check her front side windows and write a ticket for "Tinted Windshield". Remember, my windshield has only factory tinting. I ended up having the front side windows stripped and retinted with lighter (legal) tint (an extra $80 plus tax) and having it checked by local law enforcement (for a $4.00 fee) and then paying the $7.50 ticket). My Marauder still looks good but not quite as good as with the darker tint.
