I am new to this site so forgive me if this is a repeat. I haven't seen this ? posted. Can anyone of you tell me why the steering column of a panther car comes toward the driver at an angle and not straight on? If I were to exagerate, I would describe it as coming out of the dash angled toward the drivers' door. Can it be adjusted/fixed??? Let's not confuse this with the factory tilt.

it shouldn't and it could be adjusted slightly loosening the
bolts at the bottom of the column..behind the knee panel.
if not its probably bent...
where in Brampton...I'm steeles and mavis! What is your
ride??

Now that you mention it, mine's slightly angled towards the driver's door, too...it's not enough that you feel it when driving, it just looks ever so slightly off...I just a$$-umed they were all like that.

ALL of my Panthers have been like that.

I wish I hadn't read this. I have owned my car for two years and have not noticed this. Now I will probably notice it and it will annoy me throughout the remaining years of my owning this car.

That was one of the first things I noticed when I got mine.
It definitely angles toward the driver's door. I just thought it had to do with the WIDTH of the heads on the 4.6L DOHC vs the SOHC, needing a bit of an angle to clear it, but that is all supposition.

I'm at Kennedy and Bovaird.
I picked up an 03 Marquis 2v a couple of weeks ago. I worked at summit ford on hwy 27 so it was convenient. I've just started a new job here this week.
As you can imagine, there are no sites for grand marquis soooo, most of the Marauder issues are transferrable; here I am!
I have many upgrades planned for the car but short of tint, it's bone stock. I'm starting the build list!
Thanks for the info.

www.crownvic.net
www.crownvic.us
Of the 2, CVN is a lot more active...
But stick around here, too...as metroplex will tell you, the Marauder is nothing but an underpowered, overpriced GM anyway...

We buy parts from Summit and Oakland quite regularly...
I had been there before with The MM.. Had a 97 GM
before the MM...Had dual exhaust,7251 sct tuner,K&N air filter
Cobra r rims..with cooper cobra tires..Taylor wires and the iridium
plugs..With electric fan used as trade in for MM..Great car used to
get 850km's/tank HWY...Many here have GM/CV's to so you might
pick up some good info..Welcome!! I drive a black03 MM with Grampaws
plates..Maybe I'll see you stop and chat for a While..
Come to think of it the GM wasn't perfectly straight..Never thought of it
before either!?

It may only appear to be crooked since the surrounding environment is not straight. In other words, all of the lines and angles around it may make the column appear to be at an angle. The steering wheel angle is not set so that 12 o'clock on the wheel is straight up. Its actually set at a slight angle (usually 3 deg or less depending on vehicle) since the dash behind it will make it look crooked if it were set with 12 o'clock straight up.

I think the alignment jig was out of whack when the cars were assembled. If you look at the amount of space between the side of the column and the dash trim, it's larger on the passenger side. If it annoys you too much, slightly loosen the 4 nuts that hold the column to the dash underneath and put the column where you want it, then tighten them up. You can end up with an even amount of space on each side of the column.
