Made a quick run to Memphis this evening. Just as I stopped at a red light I felt BAM ! I pulled over on the side street out of traffic and waved for the car behind me to pull over and he just floored it and sped on by. I took off after him{ I still haven't looked to see what if any damage I have } and followed for a few blocks, just long enough to get tag number and good description of car and driver, then dropped back. I thought it wasn't worth causing another accident or getting caught speeding. I got out to look and damage is minimal, if any . May be a minor scuff but I think it will clean up. I was only a few blocks from a police station so I stopped and had them fill out a report just incase I find more damage I'll have something to go to my insurance company with. Just burns me up people won't take responsibility for their actions. Officer said the driver either didn't have a license or had outstanding warrants.

You did the right thing,.. the last thing you need is some crazy bastage pulling a gun on you over something so trivial.

I agree. Getting the plate # and a discription of the car was the best thing to do.

I know you're pizzed, and hurt, but you did the right thing, took the best action in what is often a heated reaction. Bravo! Remember that it's just a car, it will get fixed. Confronting the other motorist could have made things worse, and worse for you. Let the cops figure it out and chase the bad guy, it's what they get paid to do. Meanwhile, you're okay, and your MM is just a "tad" insulted, yes? Work it out...You done good.

It's been almost 2 weeks now. Did the police identify the other driver yet? If you gave them the plate, they should have completed atleast the preliminary investigation. Let us know how you made out.

Well I got a copy of the police report but all it shows is the information I gave them reporting the accident. I asked if the plates were run or if they had any other info but nobody seems to know anything. On the bright side, I have NO damage. It all cleaned up. I just reported it in case I found some damage, I'd have something to show the insurance company. Thanks for the concern. I guess all is well.Considering everything else going on in the southeast a little tap in the rear is nothing to get upset about . I just hate some people's sense of responsibility , or lack of, by driving off before even seeing if there was damage.

The same thing happened to me in January. I'm chasing a Camry full of teens up and down hilly, icy streets. I even got out of my car and ran up to his to remove the snow from his license plate. I only got the first two numbers, but lost the car in traffic. The driver later ditched his car on his own street. I gave the police the first two numbers and they recovered the car fitting my description.
You got to keep bothering the police until they pay the other driver a visit.
In my case, some teenage punk let his mother take the rap (insurance wise). My car (a '89 Town Car) was totaled out with frame damage. Next time I'm calling a lawyer.
