OK, I used the search function, but did not find the exact answer I was looking for. I am trying to find out of the number pad on the door will still work to unlock the car or open the trunk if a non-Ford/aftermarket remote start/alarm is installed?

Using the search function, a couple people did state that it still worked when they had the Ford remote start/alarm installed, but no one mentioned if it still worked with an aftermarket one.

I am planning on having an aftermarket alarm/remote start installed that will have lock/unlock and trunk open control as well. Just want to find out if the number pad will still work, too.

Thanks,

An aftermarket alarm should have no effect on the door keypad.

I don't have an aftermarket alarm on the MM, but I have on other Ford products and there have been no issues with the keypad.

If you must disable the alarm with the key fob remote then the key pad will ideed become useless.

If I even touch the keypad while the alarm is on,.. it sets it off.

Yes, the alarm will go off if you use the keypad to unlock and open the door. I have a Viper 795 alarm/starter. The alarm doesn't know that you're opening the door. It's still armed so it'll see the door opening and the alarm will go off. You will still need to disarm the alarm. But if you have remote locks on the alarm, why would you need the keypad? The few times I've used the keypad was when the alarm wasn't armed and I didn't have my keys handy.

Thanks,
I installed a Desigh-Tech remote start to my '04. I programmed the key fobs / remotes to open the trunk & unlock & lock the doors. I don't use the factory key fobs anymore. Yes the factory alarm system still works and the door keypad works.

This is more what I am worried about. Or, heaven forbid, I was to accidently get out and somehow lock the keys in the car. Just a nice added feature to have around.

When we take the wife's car anywhere, I usually leave my keys at home since I am usually driving her car and carrying the keys. So if I wanted to open the trunk or something quick, would just use the keypad.

I've used an alarm for so long, the only way I lock the doors to my car is by using the remote. For me it's second nature. Also, in the rare event that you do lock the keys in the car, you wouldn't have armed the alarm, because the remote would be locked in the car, right?

Right. The alarm would not be armed, but I would still be locked out. Part of why I was wondering if the keypad still works.
