So I'm heading north on RT 9, just a exit ahead of Englishtown in the left lane cruising with the windows down Listening to that lovely sound of Loudmouth II Mufflers on a 4.6l.

When I decide to glance in my rear view and see a black Dodge Magnum get real close to my back bumper. Light ahead turns red so I'm the first car with this Magnum directly behind me, still not knowing if its the Hemi powered car.

So I decide to find out, Light goes green and I give it 3/4 throttle. Enough to just get ahead of everyone else, and to signal the challenge. He lets about 2-3 carlengths grow between us before he gets on it and quickly closes the gap, Exactly what I expected, and Feared....I had just challenged a Magnum RT :help: .

Luckily the light ahead was red so when I stopped, he surprisingly was still right behind me. It was go time. I knew I really didn't have a chance unless We get to top end, but I don't back down from a challenge, no matter how lopsided.

Light goes green and I punch it. Lightly spinning my right rear a little, The Magnum stays behind me, approaching 20 he changes lanes, but is still not gaining, 30 hes starting to gain on me now, Stayed the same until I hit the magic number 50 where I though I had a good chance at staying ahead......

Nope:mad: Apparently the Hemi Equiped cars thrive in top end, cause from 50 on My speedo Practically flew to 90, yet he Passes me like I'm doing 40 and He starts gaining, severely gaining up until I had the car pegged at the speedlimiter of 110, and he was Still pulling on me:alone:

Then We caught up to traffic and that was the end. But Me being the good looser I pulled up next to him and tooted the horn, he looks over and I give him the thumbs up. He nods.

It was a good experience for me as I now treat them with a little more respect, at least until my car gets out of the shop with its New "Improvements:burnout: ":cool4:

First thing is when a Magnum approches from the rear check to see if it has driving lights. Hemi's have driving lights. If you see one from the rear they have dual exhaust. Second, get a MM with a few mods and you will no problem.

I've been wondering about that. Hemi Dodges are thicker than fleas at a camel convention around here (and a mite bit uglier, too), so I'd like to know what I need do to avoid having sand kicked in my face by those freight boxes.
Would I hold my own with just a chip and gears? I put 80-100 miles a day on mine, and I'm not willing to to blow raw gas through my wallet, but I'd take a 2-3 MPG hit if it'd keep me in the game.
Ideas?
Thanks.

4.6 DOHCs have TOP END....4.6 SOHCs have more LOW END...HEMIs have 66 more cubic inches = 1 Liter advantage.

I would check out an Allen Supercharger kit before you start challenging any more HEMIs.

Being whomped on the street is a good thing. It makes you come to your senses that the mods you've done are not enough and you need to do more. For me, it's handing. My car does O.K. in a straight line but around turns leaves much to be desired. Braking too.

Good luck with future challenges.

My Friend just purchased a 95 ThunderBird LX with a Allen Supercharger. With 5-6 PSI of Boost and running a bit rich, It was dynoed at 300hp and 365tq to the wheels. I havent stepped up to the light with My MM against him, But I think its Safe to say, Ill be seeing his Taillights when the green light drops

Getting a Marauder is out, Besides I like doing things the hard way:D

The car Is going into the shop this Tuesday for the following.

3.73s w LSD
Steeda UD pullies
MM Airbox 80mm MAF
04 PI tube
Xcalibrator tune to make it all work:burnout:

AED is on the list, but before that I am going to get P&Ped Heads with Street/strip Cams. Then I get the AED.

I should be a challenge for the Hemis by then, for now I'll continue embarassing V6 Mustangs, 3rd Gen Fbodies, and the assorted Imports running around.

Much easier that a Hemi Magnum:o

Good luck and Godspeed to you my friend. Sometimes the hard way makes it all the sweeter...WHile you are at it...uncork your exhaust. Get yourself some mandrel bent 2.25in piping under there. An engine that breaths better runs better.

I've got one of those "you had to be there" stoplight stories with a couple of kids driving a new short bed Dodge Ram HEMI.

We were sitting at a stop light and the kid started to rev his engine. The other kid leaned out his window and yelled out "at the light we're going for it, right?" I just looked over and smiled.

I'll leave the rest of the story to your imagination because after all it was a pickup, but needless to say the Dodge commercials are way overrated.

Over-rated indeed considering you have a ProCharged MM!! I Assume you mopped the floor with him!

I hesitated to even mention it because the matchup was so lopsided, but the truck was so eager to run I had to oblige. Besides, what's the use having a supercharger without squeezing one off for the admirers every once in a while?

Before the light turned green I looked over and said with the calmest voice I can muster: "All right, but you're gonna get creamed", or something to that effect. You know the rest of the story, light turns, Marauder takes the HEMI by several car lengths before even getting out of 1st gear.

I let off the gas and as the Ram catches up and the passenger leans out of the window and gives me the thumbs up. I yell out the window the famous "Hey, that thing got a HEMI?" line and we all started laughing.

Man I love this car. :D
