OK, this is weird. I've had a problem with my wife's Honda Civic for a few weeks now.

It was leaking antifreeze from somewhere, I found the source. It was the heater hose, so I replaced it. It poured antifreeze from the heater side, made an awful mess.

So, I get the new hose secured, and I refilled the coolant.

I go to start it,.. it won't start. It will crank, no problem, just won't actually start. WTF?

I've checked all the electrical connectors in the vicinity of the hose. They were dry and secure.

...any ideas?

Thanks!

Blown fuse. After I did some electrical work to my daughters Miata, I put a fuse back in the wrong spot, car would crank but no spark. Cost $100.00 to find & fix the problem ($60.00 diags & $40.00 towing).

Check to make sure that you have fuel pressure. (Can you hear the pump come on when you turn the key?...Pressure at the fuel rail port?)

Pull a plug wire, lay it close to a ground and have someone crank the engine to see if you have a spark.

If you have fuel and spark you should have fire!

BTW.You are a far better man than me to be able to spend time fixing a Honda...I once dated a woman who had a Honda that I was always doing maintenance on....
I broke up with her. :D

I just checked the fuses, all good... I should've already done that :shake: Jeez,.. I know better than that! :P

I'll try your suggestion Joe.

as far as doing maintenence on this little turd,.. well,.. I'm gonna start driving it to work. :( Gas price is an issue,.. but the main thing is, I wanna keep the miles on the Marauder low.

Thanks for the tips so far!

One other thought...Was it possible that some antifreeze/water got on the MAF sensor? (I highly doubt it but....)

Did you disconnect any wiring & plug connectors in order to replace the coolant hose, then forgot to re-connect them??

I did this once to my Taurus and it would not start until I discovered the disconnected wiring harness...DOH!

You didn't mention what year the Civic is. if it has a coil, then pull the wire out of the coil, and have someone crank the engine over for a good 15 seconds while you hold the wire just above the coil connector so that you see the blue spark jumping to the coil connection. You should see a steady stream of spark jumping from the coil to the boot while the engine is being turned over by the starter motor. If it's intermitent, then you have to replace the coil.

Is there a sensor in the heater / cooling system that will not allow the car to start if the coolant is too low?

The ignition modules in 1989 to 1991 civics would burnout

with only a little water on the electrical..Honda calls it an
igniter..there will be power to coil but it won't start..it was a recall item
at one point and the used to replace them NC even out of warranty..

Was this the civic u rear ended?

Petrograde

Yeah,.. same one I rear ended. but, it wasn't running before I hit it. :P

I guess I should've added that it is a 95 EX model with the 1.6L VTEC

I'm not sure if there is a low coolant sensor or not,.. the coolant shoudn't be low,.. it did gush,.. but I filled it back up. Also,. yes I did disconnect some wires, those were the first thing I checked. alas,.. they were dry and secure.

I'll have to check out this 'igniter' I don't believe that any coolant got into the distributor,.. but I guess I better check,.. even just to rule it out.

Thanks for all the help so far! :D

I think my Marauder knows she's gonna get parked for a while,.. maybe she was wispering threats to the Honda though the garage door at night? That would explain it! :P

Did you check to see if it had spark?

I haven't even had a chance lately. I've been working a lot lately, and I'm getting ready for a trip to Redstone Arsenal, AL. I won't be back until the beginning of October.

I really appreciate all the advice, I'll be putting it to use when I get back.

Thanks y'all!!

PM me when you get in to Huntspatch. Check the fuel pump reset?
