In light of the number of Marauder owners who have had wheels stolen, I am considering having my wheels etched. I know that is probably useless but I want to what I can. So, the question is, what do I have etched on the wheels?

Don't forget your Birthday. :)

Seriously, the only thing I would etch on them is the VIN # from your MM.

The Last Six (6) Digits of your Vehicle Identification Number. I did it to my wheels about a year ago on the inside near the air valve so you can see it when you put air in the tires but I did not etche my wheels , I stamped them with a numbers Die...

a pressure relaese explosive behind the wheel will get anyone trying to steal them. Not enough to destroy the car obviously ;)

I have heard that putting, "These wheels stolen from YOUR NAME" is the way to go.

It makes them very undesirable to anyone who might want to purchase them that isn't a crook. Pawn shops would never take them that way.

I have little labels that I put on MY CD/DVD collection, but that hasn't stopped my family from plundering my collection!

Marking the wheels won't keep them from being stolen, decrease access to your wheels as much as possible, always park in your garage if you have one. Park right against a wall or another car in your driveway if possible it restricts access to 2 of your wheels.

Park in a fenced in back yard if you have one, don't use your MM in areas you feel are high crime areas, drive your least desirable car. Don't draw attention to your car around strangers ie: I don't pop the hood on my car in parking lots or public places I don't want the blower to be seen...it may attract thieves.

First, etch the glass with your complete VIN number. This show the POS you are serious about keeping your car. It begs the question "Gee, what else is marked?"

Second, consider changeing the look of your rims. I plan to paint the inside of the rim black. Wheel locks are not a bad idea too.

As far as other property is concerned, I usually recommend etching your drivers license number or soundex number on them. Police can easily trace that easily identifiable number right back to you.

Social security is good, but hard to trace.

Most criminals strike when you let your guard down. Like leaving your doors unlocked or parking in an area you probably shouldn't.

Locks keep honest people honest.

All ok ideas but probably the best is a good insurance policy and parking in a protected area. If you dont have a garage, get one of those IR/motion detector lights for your driveway ($39 at Home Depot). I doubt some punk stealing wheels will be deterred by VIN numbers etched that he probably wont notice til he gets the wheels to his garage. One of the problems with having the best looking factory wheels ever made.

Yeah, bottom line, if they want it they will get it.

Good insurance is a must.

If mine "go away"..........it's new Cragar S/S forged wheels for me.

I've got two sets of wheel locks on each corner.

Good insurance is a must.Exactly. Just like your house. If someone wants your wheels badly enough they will invest the time and money to get them.

If you are serious about etching the back of your rims, do not use your social security number, birth date or bank account numbers. Because if you do this, now the bad guy has your important numbers. The best thing to do is use a number that you can relate to and will not forget. As all ready stated though, if somebody really once your wheels, they will get them. A etched ID on the rims will only help if the wheels are recovered.
