View Full Version : Need Help With My Nuts!

Uhem, . .
Lug Nuts that is. :D
Not to start a war but I have searched for different type locking lug nuts and have a few questions in making up my mind.
Due to the amount of members having their wheels stolen, I would much rather pay for a theft deterent method than to pay for my insurance deductible in the event I get ripped off.
I am very familiar with the MaGard system. However it is my understanding that a universal tool for removing these lug nuts can now be purchased?
The Gorilla locking system appears to fit my needs but am conserned that someone attemptong to hammer a socket over these lug nuts may cause enough damage preventing easy removal?
Is there a universal tool that can be purchased for these as well?
MaGard part # 24194
Gorilla part # GOR-71683N.
Are these correct?
I hate thieves :puke: and even though I live across the street from 2 LEO's, I still do not feel safe from said thieves.
Any input you may have would be of benefit to me and possibly others who are thinking along these lines as well.
Thanks in advance,
Mike.

MM2004,
It has been suggested to me by my tire store to use two different sets, mix them up. This only detours thieves easy target. No matter what kind of lug nuts you put on, if they want them, they'll get them. I park in my garage & drive my other car when I know I have to park for any length of time. If they don't want to spend a lot of time getting the wheels off, it will get to just stealing the whole car as quicker. Here in Phoenix area, there is a group of theives that are steeling high dollar spinners from people's driveways & leaving the nuts in a smiley face pattern on the ground. If you don't think these guys are investing in good lug nuts, you're kidding yourself. One guy was on tv & he had $11,000 in wheels & tires stolen from his Escalade @ 8pm while he & his family ate dinner.

Mongo,
Thanks for your reply. I do understand that if the thieves want somethig bad enough, they'll get it.
If I can slow them down a bit, and possibly them making more noise, they may give up and leave. Big maybe.
We have very special cars, and want to keep this one for many years to come. As well as all the factory parts on it.
Mike.

I'm switching from the MaGards to the Gorilla locks because there will be 20 locks to deal with instead of 4. Might make the thieves look elsewhere. But like you said if they want them bad enough they'll take 'em no matter what. I just hope to slow them down.....

Additional deterrents are always good. They will slow down the removal of your tires and wheels.

Are there any vendors here that sell these locking lug nuts listed above?
If not, where do we get these from?

MaGard are sold at the dealer and most of the larger automotive stores (Pep Boy's, Auto Zone etc.)

Doesn't really matter who's nuts they are.
Take a hand full of deep well cheapo sockets and hammer one that fits onto the locker with a dead blow and they'll come off just like the others.

I have both the McGard and Gorilla locking nuts on my car. The McGard's were already on there when I bought it, the Gorilla's came with the aftermarket wheels I had bought for my CV. I will be supplementing my Viper alarm system with the add on tilt sensor. It detects any lifting motion (e.g. when someone's trying to jack up your car) and triggers the alarm. I don't remember the part number, but I have it installed on my XR's Viper 800.

True, but most POS wheel burglers are not carrying a a bunch of sockets. Unless they scoped your car the day before and come back prepared..

I don't have the part #s for the locks, but I'll have the Viper part # on Tuesday. I know that if some :censor: thief want's something, they'll get it. But I'm going to make it :censor: difficult for them.

Sully,
The part #'s are:
MaGard part # 24194
Gorilla part # GOR-71683N.
Looks like I will be going to Gorillas and possibly McGards as additional protection.
Thanks to everyone!
Mike.

This is true Todd, but with the Gorilla Locks now they have to hammer that cheapo socket on 20X's.... not 4X's

So the Gorilla Locks are a set of 20?? Or are you just buying five sets of Gorilla locks (4 to a set/pack)? How much for a set (of 20)?

Set of 20 with one key and a coupon to purchase an extra key (one for the garage and one for the trunk). Summit Racing part #GOR-71683N paid 32.99 a little over a year ago. Looks like they've gone up $2 and are now 34.99 a set.

OK. Got 'em from the brown van today and grabbed some images for everyone thinking about stopping or slowing down those POS thieves. :puke:
Sorry for the crappy images. Had to overexpose the closeup to see inside the tool and I blurred the other one.
Maybe I'm playing with 'em too much? :D

I bought the set of 20 Gorilla Locking Lugs with the extra key directly from GORILLA.
I've had them since the Marauder was NEW.
You can't knock these off with a mallot unless you intend on breaking the lug too.
These are solid, hardened and polished.

Bumping an old thread because I just ordered a set and the newer Marauder owners might not know of these.

Stock wheels are ugly! They would do you a favor by stealing them.
Just my two cents.
