I've looked around couldn't find any topics on this--anyone have a weird "Ping" or two after turning the engine off? It usually happens when I park somewhere, but now it seems to happen occasionally when I'm at a stoplight.
Any idea what this might be?

The "ping" you are referring to is the exhaust cooling down. All of our cars seem to do this.
At a stoplight with the engine running? That's a new one to me.

Ping? Are you thinking of the ping noise the hot engine usually makes
when you turn it off?

It's towards the rear of the car, and it sounds like around the area of the exhaust, like MM2004 said. The first time it happened, I thought I kicked an acorn at my tailpipe by mistake. My dad's '74 Nova also had a "turning-off habit", where the engine would go "Puh, Puh, Paaaaaah"

I agree it's the exhaust pipes cooling down. It nearly always happens after pulling into the garage for me. It also happens occassionally after coming off a freeway run and going through a 25 MPH residential area (at 25) or a stop light. I believe it only happens for stock exhausts. I kinda like it! Maybe the guys with Kooks, Flowmasters, etc. could Chime in on it for them.

Since I put the aftermarket exhaust on, My car does not do this anymore. I miss it.

It's something about those 24" exhuast tips that our Marauders have. They just to that. Especially after you really get into the gas pedal hard, and then you park it and shut off the engine. Get ready for a couple of loud pings then as you're walking away. I think that even after I installed my Kooks headers and exhaust package, the factory exhaust tips still did that. however, they don't do that anymore on my car, so i think that once they've went through so many heating up and cooling down cycles, eventually they stop doing that. I kinda miss that too. BTW, my car has 33,000 miles on it now, and I think the exhaust tips pinged until about the 30K mark.

Full length aftermarket exhaust here, it pings, sometimes twice. I don't even notice it anymore.

Mine does it after the car is turned off. It was great the first time it did it in our garage. My wife arrived home a few minutes after I did and my car made the pinging noise. It scared the cr_p out of her.
Its never done it while the car was running though. You may have some other problem.

I first heard the loud ping when we stopped after about an hour at highway speeds.

I'll chime in here to say that my car 'pings' when shes sitting after a long run, and I've also heard the pint happen during operation once or twice
