Any of you guys had any experience with it? The clearcoat we've got isnt the best, I'm wondering if the national bodyshop can help us out--?

I wouldn't go back to Maaco ever again, even if I was offered a free paint job. Many years ago I went to them for one of their paint job specials. It was special all right. They painted right over the factory decals and there were bumps all over where it looks like the painted over dirt. The saying "you get what you pay for." is absolutely true.

If you want paint that looks like it was applied with a bristle brush this is the place to go.

The saying "you get what you pay for." is absolutely true.Bingo...MAACO is fine if all you want is a half-decent paint job on a hoopty, but there's NO WAY I would let them touch a car I cared about.

Disclaimer: Just like with any franchise, there are good ones and bad ones. My personal experience with MAACO was not one of the former...

Interesting side note: Ever wonder, since the names are similar, if there's any relationship between MAACO and AAMCO? Well, there is...they were both founded by the same man, Anthony A. Martino...(AAMCO came first...)

MAACO is a franchise operation, is as good or bad as the owner and his crew. Locally I am fortunate to know the owner and they use top quality paint, it is the prep were they don't match a $6000 dealer paint job.

I have saved myself and sons thousands of dollars over the last 15 years going to MAACO, it is unrealistic to expect them to match the prep of a $6000 dollar paint job when you go in there and pay $189.99 for a paint job.

If you are willing to pay for their best paint job (still under a grand) they do a good job because they do better prep. Again it is all up to the owner of the franchise.

I had Maaco paint a truck..The worst paint job ever...Starting with the leaf

in the paint a finger print on the truck box...the paint never really hardened
Believe it or no the son-in -law painted his truck with house paint and a roller
(still not recommended) and it looked better...:shake:

If you go to Maaco you need to prep the car yourself. Sand it with 180

then 320. Blow the dust off, mask the car (lights, emblems, windows, etc.)

There paint is great but its there prep work thats, well sucks. I had my

old New Mexico State police car painted there. I did the prep work, It came

out great never had a problem...

Back when I was in high school I took my Camero Z28 for a decent paint job. I paid for the best that they had to offer. I specifically asked them to cover up and not paint my exhaust tips. They looked at me like an idiot and told me that they "know what they are doing!!" When I picked up the car guess what? PAINT ALL OVER MY EXUAST TIPS. Worse, they didn't fix any of the minor imperfections/ dents that were on the hood from road debris and it looked horrible. When I threatened to have my lawyer send them a letter they agreed to repaint the hood but never took care of the over spray on the exhaust tips. I was forced to get rid of it myself with a razor blade and paint thinner.

They have lost a customer for life and I will never allow a family member or a friend go to a MAACO again.

You'd be better off applying the paint with a stick.

My brother took his 87 monte SS to Macco about ten years ... ughh...
They didn't prep the car (which he paid them to do) and painted over the decals and emblems, now the kicker is they painted it the wrong color!
They did repaint it the right color but didn't fix the other mistakes.

Your best bet would be to go to a private body shop.
It will cost you more, but would be worth it.

MAACO!

Isn't there a shark they took their name from?

Or is it the other way around?

Well, there was a time you could do worse...

"Hi! My name's Earl Scheib, and I'll paint any car for $49.95!"

Sorry Guys. I have had very good work done out of the Maaco in Augusta GA. In fact I have had about 6 cars painted there with only one having a problem with flaking off at the hood seam. That one was one year old and they painted the whole car again for free. It looked better the second time than it did the first.

I've had the 5000 dollar Imron paint jobs before and Yes there is no compairison but I could have had the car repainted every week for what Maaco charges.

67 RS/SS Camaro 5000 Paint Show Car :P
69 SS Camaro Had Macco put quarters on also
89 Police Caprice the one that flaked but it was rough before :coolman:
86 Blazer still looks good, 5 years old :)
