Hey folks.....

I feel like I should replace the belt on my 04 and remember someone saying one manufacturer makes the best one.....what is it and a part number if anyone knows?? :confused:

Advance and CarQuest have their brand but I'm not too sure of the quality!! :cool:

Hey Jack!

I would not concern yourself too much about "Brand" of belt you choose.
There are probably only a few manufactures of belts.
I believe they are sold and renamed whatever.Buy local and be happy!:D

Made no noise when moisture got to it. I've seen other aftermarket brands used on other cars and they squeal, especially going WOT 1-2 shift would make a squeal into the shift.

Gatorback didn't do that.

Might be due to old hard rubber?

We know the only squeeling rubber noise allowed during 1-2 shift, huh?:D

Use either the Goodyear Gatorback or a Gates...Trilogy supplies Gates belts for both the replacement serpentine and the blower...so far so good after almost 5,000 miles.

service with Goodyear, pretty good service with Gates, and it's pretty much down hill from there.
My own personal choice would be factory Motorcraft. But...

Gotta ask why you're thinking about replacing your belt? These should easily last >100K miles. But, they
will begin to show some random cracking in the ribs long before that. Unless you're just wanting it to
look pretty, those cracks don't affect anything. A good rule of thumb is to replace the belt when you see
several adjoining ribs with their cracks in a line, and/or when the marks on the tensioner show the belt has
stretched beyond it's service limit.

I replaced my belt when the dealer installed a new idler pulley under warrantee because the original pulley had started to squeal intermittantly. This was at 25K miles/30 months of use. The OEM belt still looks perfect and I carry it in the trunk. I replaced it with a Dayco "PolyCog," #5060923 (there is also the number 6PK2345 in smaller script right under the #50....). I have underdrive pulleys but this is the OEM size belt that you use even with u/d pulleys. I just wanted a gatorback-style belt so I used the pully replacement as an opportunity have one installed.

What about always replacing the tensioner when installing a new belt? The bearing is probably a smallish sealed bearing with questionable life and the spring that loads the tension could be below specs. (weak). The old pully could go in the trunk as a spare along with the old belt. Might be cheap travel insurance if one carries tools for a roadside repair.
