It was bound to happen sooner or later. Not for me, but let's give the guy credit for at least buying a Marauder......albeit with the blue-hair package. LOL I wonder what the upcharge was for that!

Best,

Well look at it this way: take away the chrome on the lower panel and the wheel well it might not look bad?? I think a full top would look better, no chrome. where did they get the godshead on the roof piller??

I say we form a suicide squad, train for a couple of weeks, then take that monster out!

It cant be allowed to roam the planet!

It is like that three eyed fish from the simpsons 'blinky'!

It should be put on display and mocked for its entire life, then put to death as some experiment gone wrong...

Who in their right mind would splice the genes of grandpas towncar, and a hot rod!

Everybody wanted to see pictures of this car and the guy was nice enough to let someone take pictures of it for your web site. im sure he loves his car just as much as you love your car and you guys do nothing but bash it. Hey everyone is entitled to their own opinion, that's what America is all about. maybe he bought it because he thinks they look plain jane from the factory. i'll be sure to tell him ya all said thanks for the pictures.

So long as he's happy with it, that's cool. Customizing your car is always a personal experience.

Though I must admit, the chosen path is waaaaaaay off what would be considered main stream aftermarket styling. But to each his own...

This is another case of why crack cocaine, mary jane, etc, should never be used while making decisions about modifications.

Indeed, we are all entitled to our opinions! I say that if the owner of the car is happy then that is all that matters. I dont personally have the taste for it, but I'll bet the guy who hooked it up this way is just fine with it. I will say though that all the uncool bashing here is cheap. I would feel like ***** if I was reading some of the responses here. That is too bad! Now, if a rice-burner was posted here in this fashion, then I too might become rather negative about it. But this guy invested his money in an American made ride...that alone deserves some praising.

To the guy who owns this ride: Thanks for putting your money back into the United Auto Workers pocket. When you want to cruise that Marauder, let me know, be happy to ride along in mine with ya.

jerrym3

TAF, why would you be shocked?

When I first saw the car in the showroom, the dealer had an inventory of Marauders that wasn't moving. Also, this particular dealer put a vinyl top on just about every car on his showroom floor, except a few Lincoln LS models.

What would persuade him not to? Besides, it worked; he did sell it, didn't he?

Now that spring is finally here, I think I'll take a ride over to his showroom and see if he's done a repeat.

There's another big dealer in North Jersey (Wayne motors) who also loves to put vinyl tops on TownCars and Grand Marquis, but his eight Marauders are still stock.

I have owned quite a few vinyl topped cars and always had one question...why??????????...IMH O they serve no purpose for looks or anything...they are a pain to keep nice and expensive to replace...maybe just maybe it is the fake convert thing...I truly do not know...anyone????:co nfused:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.

I have seen and owned some cars that I thought looked good with a vinyl top. I had '69 XL with a black top and it looked great. The top was in excellent shape when the car went to the junk yard. :(

An old girlfriend had a '72 Buick GS that was a sort of bronze color with a dark top. It really set the car off IMHO. These days if I see a GS without a vinyl top it looks naked.

It seems to make a long, 2 door car look lower or something. And the "convertible look" probably doesn't hurt either.

Bottom line: it depends on the application.

I have a 1989 white TownCar Signature, half black vinyl top, and I couldn't even imagine that car without it.

But the new TownCars with the dealer installed vinyl tops look terrible.

I tend to like a regular GM/CV with a vinyl top (assuming it's the same color, or very close to, the body color). I think it improves the rear window style by "insetting"it a bit, squares off the roof line slightly, and covers all the panel seams in the c-post.

But, I'm not in favor of the wide chrome band over the b-post.

A lot depends on the car and the color. (They became popular starting in 1963, but I remember seeing vinyl tops on some of the old bathtub Mercs (49-51), Lincolns, and Kaiser-Frazers. I could also swear that I saw a mid 60's Corvette Stingray catalog with a vinyl top option on the removable hardtop.)
