Just a note, Because Mikes Merc and I had a conversation , about this facility yesterday.
He mentioned, he would like to return to the Chicago area, to race his own Marauder, at Rt 66 this year.
I told him, I would check thier schedule, to see if any Test and Tunes are remaining.
The last day was indeed the 21st of sept.
Till next year Mike!

damn.

I've been dying to get back to Route 66. Simply amazing track condition and prep work make Route 66 THE best place for traction in the entire country. I've had nothing but a miserable time here with my recent 2 outtings at local tracks. Trap speeds at or near 120 mph every run....sixty foots in the plus 2.0 to 2.1 range. The 2 tracks I've been to weren't prepping at all. And that doesn't mix well with over 600 ft lbs of torque at the rear wheels.

With a good 1.65 to 1.7 sixty foot, a low 11 sec ET is right there waiting to be had.

Route 66 closed.....damn. You snooze you lose I suppose.

Norwalk anyone?

Breaking the twelve second barrier has only been done by a hand full of Marauders.
The "Fastest man is you !, now, Mike!"
You got to break Trilogy #1s' record time, in your Marauder!:burnout:
Actually, my best N/A racing was at Byron near Rockford.
If you go on a day a pro group attends, they prep very well.
I ran 2.09 60' on street tires early this spring.

damn.

I know Zack is planning on fresh BFGs for next season, he says his are about done after two hard seasons, no street use.

Its hard to say what the life expectancy of the Nittos are as so much depends on how much, and where, they are used. For reference, I've had mine on for 2 seasons and they are completely shot now. In fact, my new set of heat cycled Nittos has been ordered and will be here this week....hopefully in time for my next outting.

My Nittos have been used on the street (dry weather only) and track. I've put roughly 9,000 miles on them, and about 14 track outtings. At the track, heavy burnouts is the norm.

The main reason I am getting the new Nittos now is I am convinced the old ones are shot. There are two schools of thought on traction performance with worn down drag radials....particularly the Nittos. One school says traction is better as the tire become more "slick like" with more total surface area in the contact patch. The other school says that the rubber gets "harder" nearer to the belts and that the lack of tread flex hurts.

Based on my own recent experience, I tend to go with the second school of thought. I think that drag radials are shot long before the full tread is worn out and actually disappears.

That's not to say that the tracks I went to did not have piss poor prep work. They were indeed terribly prepped. But my worn Nittos just made matters worse.
