Yesterday a snake made it's way into my garage . It was about 12-15 inches long, Solid Shinie black, as thick as a magic marker and had a 3 red round spots on it. One was on it's head. I've looked on many snake site's and wasn't able to find it. Does anybody have any idea what kind of snake this could be ?

Sound like most of our Sunshine State Marauder members. Mother nature puts special bright color markings on most of her really dangerous denizens..perhaps we should have red spots on our cars?:burnout:

possibly a juvenile florida swamp snake link (http://www.flmnh.ufl.edu/natsci/herpetology/fl-guide/Seminatrixpcyclas.htm) It looks like the racer snake but it has 3 bright red round spots on it.

The indigo is an endangered species here in southern GA/Northern FL. I've seen them with varying patterns of red spots around the head area. About the only venomous snakes you have to worry about are the water moccasin, coral snake, copperhead, or rattlesnakes. Only the pygmy rattler is as small as the one you describe, but different colors and pattern.

Whatever kind of snake it is you don't want to kill it, even if it's poisionous. They keep small rodents in check and some even eat other snakes. All snakes will flee if not cornered.

I won't kill it , I just want to make sure my 9 year old daughter and her friends don't get hurt. I Also want it out of my garage . By finding out what kind of snake it is gives me a better understanding how to handle it if I have too.
