I recently send this same message to Jerry to get his point of view, and am still waiting to here back from him. But I thought I'd post it here to tap the wealth and knowledge of all of you too! Here goes...

My car has been encountering an interesting phenomenon lately and it's kind of giving me the creeps because it's reminiscent of what my Turbo Impala was doing (you remember the horror stories I told you, right?)

Well, it’s not EXACTLY like that, but here’s what’s going on. The car is running beautifully at normal/cruising/and WOT speeds. The problem arises at idle and coming to a stop.

When I’m at a stop light, the RPMs will do one of several things:

1. The RPMS, will sit at 500-600 and just purr like a kitten (normal Op)

2. The RMPs, will dip below 500 (350-400) and jump over 500, to 550-600, and pulsate between the two; pulsing from ~350-600

Another problem arises, when I am coming to a stop. As the RPMs descend, and I come to a stop, the RPMs will sometimes dip dangerously below the 350 mark and I can hear the engine “shutter”. It will then either pulsate like I explained before, or engine will die. The engine has only died twice under special circumstances (parking the car on an incline, and coming to a stop after running it rather hard).

When I first got the kit the car ran wonderful without any of these symptoms. I haven’t changed the car at all. What do you think it could be?

By the way - when I say 500RPM, I'm eluding to the needle sitting at the first hash mark. I don't know if this is indeed 500RPM, but I can only assume. If it's not, base all RPM calculations in reference to the needle on this assumption.

Also, other than this - the car is running oh so fine! AND I AM LOVIN' IT!

did you install a K&N filter kit ?? because on the kit if you install the hose the way that they are showing on the brochure it will cause the car to stall at idle .

Several posts relating to the IAC (Idle air control.) causing this symptom.

How does one 'check' the IAC - am I looking for something...?

The IAC is the cylinder-looking thing mounted to the side of the throttle body. Remove it and look inside...you might see a good amount of carbon deposit build up in there. I usually use one or two squirts of gumout and clean it out.

Thanks! I shall do that.
