Well, just had a new alarm/remote start installed this past weekend. I am a long time DEI fan, but went with a unit that was a little less expensive, but is actually still made by DEI. It is an UNGO ProSecurity SR6000 2-way system. It has an alarm and remote start setup.

It is a pretty cool setup with some cool features. I did have a problem when I got it home Saturday that it would automatically start on it's own every 3 hours. It took a couple times of this happening before I got the time pattern down and it took me until Sunday morning to finally figure out what was going on. I was really worried that it was something wrong with the install. Well, come to find out it is actually a "feature" that I had enabled when hitting buttons on the remote.

Anyway, besides the normal alarm and remote start options it also has the following:

1) Timer Mode - will automatically start and run for the preset time and then quit. Will do this every 3 hours

2) Interior Temp - can hit combination of buttons on the 2-way remote and it will show the interior temp of the car

3) Verification on the remote when the car actually starts and shuts off (if you let it run the full time set)

4) Remote will vibrate or beep when alarm is set off (typical 2-way system item)

5) Valet Take-over - with the car running, can set the remote start on so that you can remove the keys and lock the doors and let the car continue to run

6) Short-run/turbo - This will allow the motor to run a preset time after turning the key off and removing the key. Effectively a turbo timer to allow the turbo to cool down after driving (if I had a turbo this would be cool).

7) 24-hour timer mode - This will automatically start the car once every 24 hours and run for the preset time.

So far, pretty happy with the setup. Only time will tell if it was really worth the investment. They ended up using a second module that holds the valet key to send the key information to the cylinder to allow the remote start without a key in the ignition. There was another way to get around this, but the shop that did the install says this way has been more reliable in the long term - especially in really cold weather. It also has a blue LED instead of red and that is installed to the left of the pedal adjust button and it quite visable through the tinted windows. So it has both that and hte factory red light on the dash that blink. The remote has normal chirp and silent arm/disarm and remote trunk release.

Definitely going to enjoy that this winter when leaving work!!!

I installed one from DesignTech International (see http://www.designtech-intl.com/). You can pick these up at Advance Auto. You'll also need a Universal Bypass Module. The install was a little hard (about 6 hrs.) and I took my time, careful to solder and heatshrink tube all my connections. Can start the car, kickoff the alarm, unlock & lock the dooors and pop the trunk lid all from their remote.

Any problems with the securilock? I remember reading somewhere in the owner's manual that installing any remote start system other than the one offered by Ford may cause some issues with the Securilock keys. I was looking into getting an aftermarket system as well, but figured why not settle with a remote-start system installed by the dealer that will work with the Secuirlock feature.

And can you tell me if the Securilock system is all it's hyped-up to be? I personally don't think too highly of alarms installed by the dealership, and I want a remote with a two-way feature, to be notified of changes in my car from a long distance; i heard some of the latest ranges for two-way remotes can go up to 1/4 mile or a 1/3 of a mile.

What exactly is the Securilock system? So far I have had no problems with the functunality of the Ungo system or the car itself in the last 4 days.

I had to install the Universal Bypass Module to my Design Tech system to get it to work with the factory PASS system. That was the only real pain in the a$$ when installing the system. Had to get the right amount of turns in the wire and positioned correctly around the keylock.

They used something similiar for mine, but this is where they used the valet key in that module. It then has wires that go out and actually go around the key cylinder and send the signal. This is part of why they said they did not go the other route because of that is not positioned correctly or it moves, it will not transfer to the key's signal. This gives a signal all the way around from the key itself. Again, so far no problems.

Only problem I have seen is that the temp monitor always says 89 degrees. Only time this would be an issue is if I set the function that it has where it will automatically start and run for the set time if the temp drops below 0 degrees (yes, one more function I didn't list). Other than that, the other functions seem to be working like intended.

My Universal Bypass Module also uses a key in the module itself. I broke off the metal part so it couldn't be used if the car was stolen.
