I did this install / mod a few weeks ago. Installed a Rockford OmniFi DMPI in place of the JVC 12-CD changer which replaced the factory 6-CD changer. Got the DMPI on eBay for less than $150.00 including shipping. Also needed RCA inputs to connect to the factory radio, got mine from www.logjamelectronics.com. The inputs connect inbetween the factory radio harness and the radio, easy install. DMPI comes with a 20GB harddrive, I uppgraded mine to a 60GB (mine is bigger than yours), this way I can listen to all my CD's plus all of the wife & kids CD's..... like I'd really listen to that rapcrap. Here are some pics of the finished product.... as you can see, I also installed a GPS unit.

That is a steering wheel cover, custom-made, same color leather as the interior. Only keys on the Mercury "waterfall / hockey stick" keychain is the ignition, two house keys. a few of those store "VIP" cards and the remote for the remote start / alarm system

I'm jealous.

I have ~40 gigs of MP3's and they are overwhelming trying to keep my music collection on 700 meg MP3 CD's that my alpine plays. I've been wanting to try putting a computer in the truck but this looks great. Awesome job on the install too, looks very clean!

Is the control face plate (don't know what else to call it) mounted below the radio "recessed into the dash" at that location?
or is it just a thin face plate...
Thanks, Walt.

I suppose you lost the steering wheel controls with this setup?

It's a thin removable faceplate, less than a 1/2 inch thick.

Yes and no.... Since the unit plays thru the stock headunit, I can't use the steering wheel controls to change the control unit, but they still work for volume, etc. on the head unit.
