Greetings,
I would assume this is common knowledge but since getting my MM on 8-1 I have noticed that there is something written in silver paint pen on my plastic radiator cover in front of the battery. I searched briefly but didn't find anything. It says 'M3038' on the first line and '8-21-02' on the second and has '109' on the third line. The writing is about 3/8" tall and was obviously done by hand.
The car was built on 8-21-02 so I'm assuming this writing was added at the plant. What does M3038 mean? There is no way this was the 3,038th MM built... Perhaps it was the plant build sequence number but it has no correlation to my VIN (...X630559).

Does everyone have this?

I'll look when I get home this evening. you probably have something cool like one of 3,500 that were hand built...

The dealer stock number is usually in that format.... So M3038 would be Mercury, 2003, and the 38th they got that year... Usually written in crayon on the rear license plate area or the front or on a little sticker on the windshield... Each dealer has his own system... I would suspect that the selling dealer put that on when the car was delivered to him....Not at the factory...

I bought the car from my Engineering Director where I work... she was pretty geeked to get the car right when it came out and I know she got an early one. My company did the seats, carpet, and some other interior parts on the car. She went all the way to Louisville (from Detroit) to get it.

Note my correction to the original post... it was built in 2002 NOT 2003... It is an early one.

And, despite what year your Marauder was built in, these numbers and their sequence do not match anything we have heard of here. Could be an auxillary inventory number added by a dealer, but it means nothing to us beyond that.

Yea, it was deivered to a dealer in Louisville, KY.......

I'm going to ask her if she added them for some reason... I highly doubt it though.

Ozz,

See if you can find out what Dealer. I live in Louisville and can possibly assist? Digital Images would be helpful, . .

I have the number "836" written on my radiator cover. It's written in some sort of red marker or ink. It was written by hand. I bought my MM in Detroit in May of 2004. Thats all Ive got.

Is it possible the 8 is a "B"?

I don't think so. From what I remember it's an 8. What sort of idea do you have, i'm curious?

Nothing really. Thought if you took another look at it and it could be a B, someone else might know. I don't think ours has anything on it but will look tomorrow.Good luck.
