When threads are deleted, let's at least have the courtesy to inform the thread originator. Jeez.

EDIT - I'm not the first to have noticed this. Its a common occurence around here lately. A little courtesy and a short explanation would be the right thing to do. That's forum modding 101.

LOL!!

Well, I guess this thread is doomed now too:) The "content police" will be along here shortly to adjust the content to their own personal tastes. I can see pruning flamefast political threads...but not being able to tolerate a little politcal satire (the same kind you can read in your own sunday newspaper) is bit....well....intolerant.

If you look under Forums, you'll see a placeholder for the deleted thread, so there's your notice. This IS a car forum.

Then why even have an off topic forum such as the Lounge?

The Lounge doesn't mean carte blanche.

What DOES it mean then? If it obeys the rules, doesn't have flaming, porn, swearing, or any of the other nasty things then what constitutes the unaccceptable? Just your personal taste?

EDIT - BTW, Mary, this isn't in any way a personal attack on you. I would just really like to know what's become acceptable and not acceptable. If there is new unaccpetable content that isn't in the forum rules thats subject to deletion, the members should know. Maybe they wouldn't post in the first place if they knew what offended you.

Threads get nuked when I get complaints and those complaints are reasonable. Rarely because of my own personal taste.

Post nudity, lewd or suggestive content and I'll nuke it pre-emptively.

Other than that, stuff pretty much gets left alone unless folks decide to get personal in their attacks as you're so fond of doing.

Politics can be discussed on political forums, Religion on forums dedicated to that topic.

I don't notify or explain myself because I don't have the time to argue or debate an undebatable topic. Nothing you or anyone else says is going to result in me undoing an action, so there's little point discussing it.

We're not here to cater to ego's or make folks feel good about themselves. If they don't like it, okay, well, so they want us to do what? I'm not going to change, they're not paying my bills, and in turn get a completely relative amount of my attention. This site, for me is nothing but a money pit, and none of the moderators get anything but my thanks for helping out and alot of CRAP from the users.

On a more personal note, posting comments such as:

Well, I guess this thread is doomed now too The "content police" will be along here shortly to adjust the content to their own personal tastes.
Is guaranteed to PISS me off, no matter how "satirical" in nature you pretend you're being and regardless of smily usage. I guarantee you sir, my limit has been reached, you're in my house, act like it.

Everytime YOU have one of YOUR posts edited/deleted/moderated you get all pissed off and all over our collective asses. Get over yourself and get over it and take a valium, this is a friggin car site, move on man.

This isn't new. Make it personal with me and accounts get closed, Period. I just don't have the luxury of dancing around, explaining myself to every self-involved Alpha personality that wanders onto this site. I've zero patience or time to deal with anyone who's just out to aggravate me. I won't do it.

So, my advice, get off my back and the moderators backs. Start ****, you might as well do it with gusto as a last hurrah.

I had a thread deleted. I wasn't told why, or sent a courtesy PM, or explanation. It was just erased completely. It wasn't hot headed, political, satyrical, or anything of the sort. It was just a heads up that I was selling something in the Classifieds. Now, I know thats what we have the classifieds for, but going off an example of what Ive seen another member do, by starting a thread of a similar nature, I figured it was ok. So I check back 20 minutes later, and the entire thread has vanished. Now I figured it was erased because of redundancy, but this is an assumption...and we all know what happens when you assume something. Can someone verify if my assumption is correct?

Logan,

I was aware of Mat's disappearing thread as well. We talked about it.

Dan Wasson had one disappear on him as well a few times.

Based on this and my own vanishing thread, I over reacted.

If I were PM'd by you about having a thread deleted I certainly would not waste your time arguing. I would, however, learn a little more about what's acceptable and what isn't. When something is posted and does not contain nudity, porn, swearing, or personal flaming, it gets confusing as to why something was nuked. My thread was meant to be funny and make people laugh regardless of political preferences. Many did find it quite funny. I suppose a few didn't. I apologize, its your house.

Most Likely. Classifieds should only be posted in the classifieds section, that's what it's there for. We don't sit on the site 24/7, so sometimes there will be a lag in terms of us finding a thread or ad that shouldn't be there, which in turn people assume because it wasn't nuked immediately, that it's okay.

IMHO, we could lose the Lounge. Very little posted in that forum is worth the reading anyway. I'd rather see the resources it consumes made available to other things related to the Marauder.

Mike, I understand.

Please remember, that the people running the site are human too, and we do indeed screw up with the buttons occaisionally too...

We also, in all cases have our real lives and they'll always take a priority, which also creates issues from a time availability perspective.

No, it's not perfect, be we do our damndest to be fair and run things with an even keel.

It's exceptionally frustrating when we get criticized for how things get run when we're honestly doing our best given our resources available to us.

It's been suggested that we should add moderators, I disagree. It disables us from making unilateral decisions and makes it alot harder to keep all the moderators in "sync" with respect to how to actually run the site. It also increases the possibility of personal agendas from seeping in and doing real harm to the community. Once I add a moderator, it's REALLY hard to fire or otherwise get rid of them, as they tend to get upset about it and make my life a living hell for a week or two.

In other words, damned if we do, damned if we don't.

Therefore, the approach we have is the only one we can use. The alternative is to stop moderating and go to a traditional forum style where it's not moderated. I've asked a number of times, and it's just not what this community wanted. So I understand some folks don't like it, but I gave up on trying to keep everybody happy long time ago...;)

Thanks for the comments.

Bah, I like it. I just don't appreciate the lewd, religious or political crap. Aside from that, I think it's a great forum, though I rarely ever actually post anything there... Hmmm...

Fair enough. My apologies to Mary as well. I ran a site of my own a few years back and I should know better than criticize moderation. Especially on this site which tends to be one of the best on line communities in general.

Thanks for your comments as well.

There are pictures that have been posted here that turn my stomach and are allowed to remain...there are pictures that have been deleted I found funny.

What this tells me is simple, this is not my house. I always keep this in mind, that is why I complain about nothing, there is no point.

On a larger note (not this forum), whining and complaining is quickly becoming the American National Pastime. Freedom of Speech will soon become a BAD JOKE, because you will hurt somebody's feelings with your words.

Pay close attention to what you read and see on tv. and it will become obvious to anyone that is capable of independent thought...only certain people are permitted to make fun of anything or anyone...only one group of people is fair game for any and all jokes with total impunity.

What I just wrote has nothing to do with cars and it deals with just merely thinking outloud, thoughts are dangerous, cars are not. If my thoughts are erased I will not become upset, I will not complain.....I will just remember.

Now I have to go cut the grass.....:(
