I received the exhaust tips without resonators on Friday but was out of town until last night. I got them installed this morning.
:D :banana2:  :bounce:
You can tell......I like the outcome. Fellows these tips make a huge difference. The original tips were made by Cone Engineering in California and are indeed Megs tips with a built in resonator. The other good news is that they are now making and selling the OEM type Megs tips, exactly the same size, shape, finish as original except they do not have the resonator built in.
These are straight thru stainless steel tips. Since these are parts made by the OEM manufacturer I don't think that Logan will mind me posting the p/n and cost. Going directly to Cone Engineering will save you over half the cost of what others are selling these parts for. The p/n is C-15-04076-2 and they only cost $60 a pair
plus shipping. This is the way LM originally wanted the car to sound. Hence the thread and talk of preproduction tips from before. These are the same parts. They do exsist and make a big difference.

My advice to any that want to mod their exhaust system for sound or tone changes. Buy these tips and install before doing anything else. The 18" Magnaflows I had installed at a price of $400 sounded terrible until I put these tips on. I suspect that I would have been happy with the stock mufflers had I put these on first. And saved some nice cash too.

As far as installation. It may be able to save the originals but they need to be cutoff with a sawsall and there is a pipe hanger welded to them. I told my exhaust guy to do what he wanted to get them off. He cut the hangers off the original tips and reused them. He had to add a short 3" piece of stainless pipe to get the Tips back to where they were originally. When he was done I could not tell the difference from factory installed. Get a good custom exhaust shop to do this for you ! My guy only charged me $50 to install. He normally gets $50 apiece but he gave me a break since I had just had the mufflers installed too.

So there it is......for those that want alittle more agressive sound,
for less than $200 installed you can acheive this. I now feel that the 14" Magnaflows might be too much sound with these tips.
There is also no in cabin resonance or drone at highway speeds.
There is a nice burble as well when you let off the throttle. I am sold. Any questions ask away.:D

Way to go, Wolfe, my brother...

a cheap, easy mod...the best kind...

So tell me, is the sound louder, deeper, both?

Wolfe: If I call you, will you let me listen to your exhaust note over the phone?

I would say both RF.....louder and deeper. Part of the deeper tone will be because I changed the mufflers. It is aggressive without being obnoxious sounding. It definitely is an inexpensive mod......I wish I had done it before changing mufflers.

Martyo...your asking me to fart in the phone for ya ?? You kinky bastage. :D Actually you could call......I don't know it is that agressive that you could hear it but we could try it.

I think I'm going to leave my tips alone. As it is my exhaust sounds just the way I want and I'm afraid that with the straight through tips my FlowMasters might be just a bit too loud. Great report, though, WolfeBros. Thanks!

Wolfe, why did they have to add the 3in. pieces if the new pipes are the same size?

You want part of the pipe to go into the tip for rigidity and strength. The old tip was cut cleanly at the original weld. If you just butt welded a pipe to the Megs tip the weld would break from the vibration. Since you do the Megs tip end you also want this little piece to slide over the tailpipe as well for the same reasons. Hence the approx. 3 " I hope I explained this ok. It is easier to show or draw then explain.

Makes sense, thanks for the info. I am going to order a set tomorrow. Ordered the Rienhart chip, plugs & stat today. Next will be the 4.10's and a supercharger kit.

Wolfe, this is great!
I actually would like to hear them ......in person.
$60+install sounds good if the sound's good .

Fortunately, I'm in town.

Yep Bob......I have to admit you did. Your original claim is the reason I pursued the tip change. But at the time you bought them as I recall, it was more of a last chance deal because the supply was limited. Now we know where to buy them off the shelf from the original OEM and at a great price. I sure appreciate you sticking to your guns. I know alot of people were skeptical that there ever was a preproduction type tip. Your inputs helped prove that they do exsist and I thank you.

Wolfe: I for one am glad that you took the time and effort to pursue this mod. I ordered my tips today and expect to have them in a few days. Now I just need to find a shop that can do a worthy job on the install.

I know that this is not a "go fast" mod, but the little boy (ok, RF, younger) wants a better sound. It's all part of the experience of this ride.....
