Try this. Remove your gas cap and then tighten it back up. I had this code on my wife's Taurus and thissolved the problem.

Thats covered under the 8 year 80K mile Federal Emissions Warranty. Take it in and let the dealer repair it.

to say its covered under emissions warranty isnt really accurate becxause we still dont know the exact cause of the problem....from my experiences at the dealer it has mostly been gas cap concerns...but occasionally you get a rotten evap hose or a purge valve /solenoid that is not working...but ive never seen any of those repairs covered under federal warranty...if you go to the dealer id be prepared to pay a bill....unless youre covered under bumpper to bumper still....the 8/80000 emissions warranty is quite limited in what it covers....

Try the cas cap idea then disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes. This will reset the computer. When you restart the car you will find out it that was it our not.

when you restart the car after disconnecting the battery the light will most definitely be off but that does not mean the problem is gone. the pcm has to go thru a drive cycle and monitor the evap system...if the fault is still present it will put the light on. it may take a couple days to complete one drive cycle....

Straight out of the Manual...I have taken vehicles in with 60K on the clock for a faulty purge solenoid, DPFE Sensors, etc and the dealer has replaced them, so who knows. I'm not saying the dealer is or isnt going to pay for it, I'm just reading waht the manual says and what my personal experiences are, but they also have the smoke machine that can be plugged into the EVAP Service Port to look for leaks. Easier to pay an hour labor than crawling all under the car and checking every line and the cannisters etc.
I think a 'faulty gas cap' is a wild guess at this point, theres a seprate gas cap light on these cars IIRC. My moneys on a cracked line or a purge solenoid.

Do you even HAVE a warranty left ???

It's not always a warranty issue...
Mine was caused by a shop that drilled several small holes in my gas tank, while installing an amplifier.
And yes, the shop in question paid the $1300 repair bill promptly.

the list varies by vehicle...i see you have spark plugs listed there....no way plugs are covered under federal....unless my delaer is doing something wrong...most of those things i almost always repair under pay work...the only parts i see go federal are cats and pcms most of the time...even dpfe sensors are always pay work...unless there is an open recall on them....ill see if i can check today...there is a book with all covered items at work...

I had the same issue. I checked the cap and reset the fault but it came right back. I took it into the dealer and it ended up being a loose hose in the evap system, just like the TSB says.:)
