Thinking of getting a lincoln aviater,I have 300-A with 23000 miles always garaged and not driven during the winter.Stopped by a Lincoln Mercury dealer had them take a look at my car, sales manager says wow a Marauder dont see many of those around you keep it looking real nice.I tell him what I am interested in and ask him about trade value. After he spends some time in his office he came up to me and said $14300 is the best he can do for a Marauder I laughed at him.

You should be laughing at yourself. ;) 2003 - 300A w/23k, Retail is $17-20k. $14.5k is fair market for trading it in...
I see 03's for $15-17k private party quite a bit these days...

You might want to forget the trade and take 'em up on all the discounts. Barb just turned in her '03 Aviator on a new one, and they added another $3K because of the trade. She had the '03 on 0% finance and the trade equaled the payoff, so that was a wash. Anyway with the $1,000 clearence + $3,000 Aviator trade + the $3,000 factory discount + the Employee discount, it was something over $10,000 off list. Anyway, IMHO the Avaitor is a great deal, and the service we got from the '03 makes it great vehicle. Get it while you can 'cause there ain't gonna be any more of 'em. ;)
BTW, we took 'em up on a lease for ~$600/month & change.

For what it's worth...
My brother is a Used Car Manager at a Connecticut dealership. I just spoke with him and he said he'd hit it at $14300 and not a nickel more.
No flames intended... :)

It Is Often Hard To Remember That While We Love Our Cars They Are Only $ Signs To The Dealers. We Should Remember It Is What Our Cars Are Worth To Us That Matters. When The Are Worth Less To Us Than Someone Else...we Sell. And Yes The Aviator Is A Great Deal Now.

The dealers always beat you up on a trade. :(
Many of us are in for the long run, so the trade in value means very little to us. Mine is definitely a keeper. :D

No. Definately not enough room. I'll have to start hiding em from the wife... :)
I still haven't told her about the next project yet...

I'm near Pittsburgh and flirted with the idea of trading mine in on a used Roush Mustang that was on the lot where I originally purchased my Marauder. They quoted me $17500 on mine, and it has 13760 on it as of right now. I pondered it for a few days, and just couldn't do it. In thinking about it, I had alot of QC issues with my Marauder for the first year of ownership, but now that I've "debugged" it, I couldn't imagine parting with it.

I just got mine almost 2 months ago and there is nothing whatsoever that would make me part with it. I'm in this with most of younz-- the long haul.

I wonder what this guy got on trade in for his marauder (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=190287975&dealer_id=55919739&car_year=2003&search_type=both&make=MERC&sponsorModel=&transmission=&distance=0&model=MARAUDER&address=33176&make2=sel_one&certified=&advanced=y&max_mileage=&max_price=16000&bkms=1129066597774&min_price=1&end_year=2006&color=&start_year=1981&drive=&isp=y&engine=&doors=&fuel=&lang=en&cardist=1169#vdptop) could this be the highest mileage marauder? Here is another (http://www.autotrader.com/fyc/vdp.jsp?car_id=190418791&dealer_id=7014887&car_year=2003&search_type=both&make=MERC&sponsorModel=&transmission=&distance=0&model=MARAUDER&address=33176&make2=sel_one&certified=&advanced=y&max_mileage=&max_price=16000&bkms=1129066597774&min_price=1&end_year=2006&color=&start_year=1981&drive=&isp=y&engine=&doors=&fuel=&lang=en&cardist=1076)with +100k on the odo.

Timing is everything. 3 or 4 months ago, I'd understand trade-ins in the 15.5-17k range.

When the new cars are at zero percent interest, the value of used cars drops like a rock. On top of that, a dealer is going to give you a thousand or two less than what it will bring at the used car auction in the area. That way he can try to retail it for a month or two and then, if it doesn't move, he can wholesale it. Unless you just like getting 3 - 5 thousand less than your car is worth, you need to sell it yourself. Don't take it personal. They treat every trade-in the same way.
