i've tried searching, but i can't come to any conclusions what is the difference and advantages between the K+N FIPK the JLT Cold Air Intake and the PHP kit that Dennis sells. this is on my stock for now 04.
I have also heard that thse do help guess mileage slightly, anyone have any thoughts on that. If not any other things i should try to squeeze a few more MPG.

I don't think there would be any performance difference between the three. I bet they're all pretty close. I have not heard anything negative or positive about gas mileage after this mod, but obviously, after doing any performance mod your mileage will do down sometimes not because of the mod but because you are playing around more :D

I have the JLT and I'm very happy with it. Small performance gain and nice deep sound.
My gas mileage did go down only because my foot got heavier. :D

I, too, have the JLT CAI and couldn't be happier. And I agree that there probably is not much difference between all of them. I choose the JLT as I liked the looks more than the others (personal preferrence) and he was running the special at the time I was rady to buy. Very easy install. Definitely hear it "sucking" more air in. No change in gas mileage that I can tell (even when combined with the Pro Gard).

I predict this thread will be zapped within 20 posts. :PI agree! But While its Here, I have the PHP AirBox and its a nice Set-up Except, The Air to the Filter is Fed Throught the STOCK Rubber Tube that Sits Behind the Headlight. I really didnt Want to pretend Im in Shop Class and Build a Better Intake Set-up so Im living with it. You can Definitly Hear the Difference at WOT.

I too love my JLT. Price was the biggest difference for me. Gotta respect bang for the buck! Not sure about mileage either.

I really like my PHP box,... I've been thinking about connecting a Metco tube to it.

Ditto... I Have it, I really like it, I think it helps a bit and the sound is awesome. I'd do it again, in a heartbeat!
Mind the dirty engine compartment, at the time:

Okay...
I have the K&N AirCharger/DryCharger.
Now I've said it...
I like the way it works, it sounds, and looks also.
We all have our preferences, and we are happy that we have choices ! :D

Only because no one else has piped up on the K&N I will. I have had mine installed about a month now. Does exactly what I expected based on their sales info. Easy install and works well and I like the sound. "It has a good beat and is easy to dance to." Wow does that date me or what? Anyone else remember American Bandstand? Of course you do!. Gas Mileage? I have been playing so much that I haven't checked! For me it is about fun. I will check prices at the grocery store.

I too have the K&N setup. I'm very glad I purchased it. I also added a Drycharger wrap.

Ditto, i too have the K&N Aircharger and sock. Didn't buy it for gas mileage, the but cool factor and sound. I'll worry about gas mileage when i get tired of playing...

Now that was funny :) hahaha...
I just ordered the K&N kit, hope to see it sometime next week.
I was told that they all do what they are suppose to, just personal preference in looks and cost.

I already had the metco tube thanks to FiveO(Where have you been Mark?) Then Dennis had the PHP on sale so bingo.Plus I like the stainless steel cover for the bling factor add your tuners logo to it and wala.I had it dynoed after the install and it was good for about seven h.p. and about that much torque.Plus it sounds great.seat of the pants feel in real nice. The car will be going to Ubly in two weeks and then to Norwalk for Smackdown so we see how it does then. http://home.comcast.net/~hack_goby/00a.jpg

I have the PHP box and it will add a BUNCH OF INDUCTION NOISE....Actually will drown out the exhaust sound in the cabin at WOT!!!
I was critical of the fit and paper gasket they use to mount the MAFS to the box but there is no leak potential at that junction and no gasket is necessary there anyway!! :coolman:
I like it and guess it adds a bit of power.....Dennis confirmed it on the Dyno!! :bows:

My neighbor, Cobra25, has the K&N one and that's what I'm getting. He told me that the JLT intake doesn't mount very securely because there's no mount that connects it to the firewall. It has one or two mounts that connect to the throttle body and that's it. The K&N kit is better because it's more securely mounted, it has a mount that connects to the firewall, and it's the intake kit of choice for when going with a Trillogy supercharger. I don't think I will supercharge my car but I definietely want that K&N air intake set up. I'm going to get a chip from Lidio too.

I never said anything about the fire wall. What I told you is That the JLT mounts to the Throttle body & Has no surport brackets. The K&N has a surport bracket that mounts near the Alt.& has a heat shield with a rubber seal that helps keep the heat out of the air coming into the engine. Most of the members in our group use the K&N. We have alot of heat down here so the K&N is better for us. Both kit's do the same thing , The JLT Kit cost less than the K&N, but the K&N has more parts.

Oh, my bad. I knew it had to do something with the number of mounts. Thanks for clearing that up. I'm still getting the K&N though.

I have seen a lot of the kits on cars down here in FL. The K&N is definately a much more professionally designed intake in terms of quality although I have nothing against the JLT but would not buy it myself.
I had the PHP air box and did not like it enough to keep it.
My current air box is custom made and completely seals off the filter from engine heat and draws air from behind the headlight. A box that is not completely sealed is not a box but a partial box that will still suck engine heat.

TMAC, I really likey that one. I agree, the less engine air the better. Ford did not go through the trouble of sucking the air from the fender wells of their cars for no reason.

I tested the temps inside the box a long time ago. If I remember correctly, the temp was only a couple of degrees hotter than what the outside air temps were :)
Although I like the K&N, it would be cool to see that kit with a real air box around the filter. The PHP is open in areas, which makes it simply a heat shield. Which negates the reason to have a shield in the first place as it will simply just suck in hot enclosed air around the openings, unless the only reason was to install the larger filter  .
Maybe I'm wrong, to each their own anyway.

Tim,
I agree, your setup is the way to go. I may get to it this winter and build a box similar to your's if I could get the dimensions :)
The KN 'shield, should seal against the hood, hence the weatherstrip around the edge. But much like the light in the fridge, hard to tell if it really goes off with the hood shut.

I've had my JLT on for about a year and almost 20,000 miles, never had a problem with it coming loose or falling off.

I have to agree with you. Tim's set up is the best way to keep cooler air into the intake. The dimensions would be different, Tims air filter comes in from the left side & the K&N comes it from the back. Plus the angle is different.

If I remember correctly, the K&N comes straight down and stops near the head light. It would not be that difficult to build one out of aluminum. One of these days a trip back to the shop that made mine might be in order. If they slow down I know that there would be some orders for the PCrger units as well.

Z - if the filter fits, then an enclosed box of some type could be built with the very front still using the stock rubber inlet piece as well as a second behind the light, as well as mine does. Could be done, just requires perseverence and effort.

But much like the light in the fridge, hard to tell if it really goes off with the hood shut.Maybe someone with the K&N could put some white chalk on the weather strip and see if a white line appears on the liner, and if it does is it the same width as the weatherstrip (good), skinnier (bad) wider (best) or not at all (worst).
