View Full Version : Where's your satalite antenna?

When I purchased my 04 it had an XM roady 2 installed in it. The antenna is mounted to the front center of the dashboard. It works but when I travel north the reception is poor due to the roof blocking the satalite line of sight.
So I have to ask...where is your antenna and how well does it look/work there?

XM Radio "Terk" mini antenna, located just in front of the rear window on the roof, has about a 1" lead, wire runs under weather stripping and drops in to trunk where it plugs into the XM Commander tuner. Reception is fine, doe get some dropouts when there are a lot of trees blocking the southern sky. No problems with it moving and get a strong signal most of the time.

Mine is out on the rear deck. I ran the wire under the drivers seat, then ran along the weatherstriping along the drivers side floor and then behind the rear seat. the sat. ant. is loose on the rear deck and it works great. I didnt want to put one on the roof or trunk.

Mine is right above the drivers door on top of windshield. My head unit is on the drivers side of the overhead console out of sight.

I have mine on the dash.... and have no issues what so ever. I am using a much older antenna... so it is frying pan shaped. However, I run that same type of antenna in my 88 Thunderbird and the wife's 97 Miata. No problems.

Once I get the MM back from the shop I am going to put the antenna on top of the 3rd light and run the wire under the package tray to the XM module. One of my buddy's did this and has no issues with reception.

Here's where mine is installed:

The only times I've had trouble is going under bridges or when I'm downtown and buildings get in the way.

It sounds like reception is spotty no matter where it's mounted. I guess I'll keep mine on the dash untill Terke comes out with a single lead glass mount to replace the discontinued XM11 two lead unit.

That's exactly what I was talking about ^^^^

I'm glad to hear that your getting good reception with the antenna mounted on the third lamp. I have the same recption problems as you do, bridges and downtown; tall building areas, and that is with my antenna mounted on the roof of my Mountaineer. Did you use double sided tape to mount that or some other means?

Dave, do you have a picture that we can see, I would like to get another idea as opposed to mounting it on top of the third lamp. Thanks.

Don't have XM yet, but I mounted my GPS antenna right next to the 3rd brake light and it works fine.....

Nope, but mine looks just like sully008's except it is laying on the rear deck near the third light. I havent gotten off my lazy butt to stick it to my light with the double side tape.

Mine is installed on the outside on the roof, in the front-center. Have had it for a little less than 1 year. I've never had any reception problems. I travel north a lot and it's never been an issue.

I had my Sirius antenna mag-mounted to the front edge of the trunk lid - every now and then my V1 detector would start going off at about 1/2 strength, K-band, rear arrow on. Took me a while to figure out that if I turned off the Sirius receiver the radar signal would stop.

Talked with Valentine & Sirius and nobody had any ideas - Sirius claims not to be sending any signal to the antenna, so maybe some odd reflection from the receiver back down the antenna wire. Moved the antenna to the roof just above the driver's C-pillar and have never had the problem again.

 No XM in the MM yet, however we do have it in the Nissan Maxima. It has been mounted for over a year, with the antenna mounted on the roof right over the rear-view mirror. So far no reception problems.
