View Full Version : Tire size and ABS ?

Has anyone used 4 tires with the same diameter? Wanted to get some feedback on any possible ABS problems. If any problems was there a fix. Thanks for a graet site and any help.:)

I used 235-60-16 all the way around thru winter......no problems what so ever.
SLIGHT speedo issue, but if you have the RPC installed, I am sure it can be programmed accordingly...right guys?

I'd tried 225/60-16 on all four but didn't work because of the traction control. Use(d) 235/70-16 out back for the winter.

This is good to know. I plan on running 235/50-18 all around when I get my 300a packaged MM.

Tetsu has been pursuing the "same size all around" plan for some time. Perhaps he will hit this thread and give his .o2 as well.

Economically, this would be a better scenario. Performance? Well, that's we all are still feeling out. Litterally. I wish my father was still alive, as an engineer with bridgestone/firestone, he frequently brought home prototype tires. We havn't paid for tires in 40 years in my family.

The different tire sizes do have a major effect on traction control functions. Continental-Teves of Germany-manufacturers of the traction control-use the ABS sensors, it computes the difference in the rotational speed between the front (non-driven wheel) and the rear (driven wheel ) on each side--when the driven wheels exceed a set % difference , the control brakes the fast wheel and then, if the difference increases, reduces power. Cruzer, do you think a MM with only ABS would encounter any problems? It sounds like the traction control is a bigger issue than the ABS . Any info you have on this would be a great help.:help:

All of us snowbirds that run snows run all the same size tires in this setup. As I posted before, and all others above have said....

This is first hand, so pitch the foreign reports and files and hear the real deal.

Cruztaker,What foreign reports? North of the border you mean? First of 300a's are lacking TC so you will never know how it will react first hand with different tire sizes. And secondly that means you're drive a foreign made car!

There is always the potion of turning the TC "OFF." If you want to use the same size tires all around in a winter package, turn it off. Simple solution to a simple problem.

Thanks for the replys on this subject. All the owners with the winter tire set up got to do the testing.Sounds like there were alot of those out there this winter.

Hmmm but a US market 300A isn't the same as a Canadian market 300A, so even more confusion ;)
