Does your Marauder coast backwards, in drive, on a hill ?I thought mine used to?

I always thought, the second gear stoped the car from drifting backwards on a hill.

There should be enough load on the T/C for the car not to roll backwards, depending on the grade. Show me the hill, I shall conquer! :D

I roll back all the time. I Idle at 550 RPM. Our Torque Converters have a little stahl to them. Never heard of gear 2 stopping rollback. I think it's fun. Then when you hit the accelerator, you are assured a good burnout.

Unless very steep, I don't roll back... There are occasions where I need not apply the brakes, to stay put (typical driveway grades seem to be a sweetspot for this), but it don't roll back. Not sure I'd really want to, either  I would think that if the wheels are turning in one direction, then mashing the gas and spinning them in the opposite would exert a LOT of force on the moving parts...

Yes, 2nd gear will hold the car from rolling backwards due to the one way sprag that is used.
If you are shifted into 1st, the TC should provide enough torque, with a cold engine,
to hold the Marauder steady on a slight incline.

I don't notice, but then again I'm always shifting from "D" to "N" and back to "D" so I can make people think I'm driving a manual...I just figured everyone did that...

Thanks for the replies.

I noticed this a few weeks ago.
My car used to coast backwards in drive, at this regular(everyday) route that I travel.
It doesn't do it anymore. It behaves like it is in second gear.
The trans is breaking the rollback in drive. It still takes off in 1st.
It also feels like the trans downshifts on decelleration.
My trans has always behaved a little strange.
Just one more quirk it has exihibited.

My 64 Galaxie locks tight on a hill in D2. Put the selector in normal Drive and it starts to roll back.

Hills??? what are hills?????You stole my line!

I'm the one that lives in Florida man! Your profile says you live in Indian a. I was born in Louisville, part of Kentuckyana, so I know you know what a hill is.

The only hills in Florida are the ones right on top if them girls' bellys. "Mound of Venus" they're called. Very sexyfull.

Some girls have what's called "Mount McKinley" there and that's just plain un-american. Send 'em back to Russia I say.
