Well, its my first major problem with MM, and it's not 'major' when compared to what some of you have gone through, but here goes.

My sun roof wont close. It's in its "up" position, and it wont close. It has an auto-off/close feature when you turn off the car, but it doesn't close, and the backlights just stay on.

There's power there, since the backlights are on (and stay on, even when the car's off), but the buttons won't respond. Actually, the buttons did respond, when I opened the first time tonight.

It just started happening tonight out of no where...it's never done this before at all.

Any suggestions, I'm lost:shake:

Stuck relay?

No power to the "close" relay?

Defective control module?

Jammed roof?

Something caught in the sun roof track(s) (kid, cat, some other debris)? JK :D

One of the problems is that I didn't have the sunroof installed, so I have no idea where all the electronics are located, and what's all hidden in the headliner... :-(

You could treat it like an overstuffed suitcase and sit on it.

But I'm not very mechanically-minded.

Seriously, I'd just take it to the installer (or barring that the best local installer) and have them take a look at it.

If it is any help, I have a Continental that had that problem. I kept messing with the switch and got it closed. I then took it to the dealer and they found a couple of wires had the insulation rubbed off of them, creating a short. Good luck

My son had a similar problem with the sunroof on his 2001 Cougar. Roof jammed because of a broken guide on the passenger side. The hatch was actually twisted somewhat in the opening since it retracted unevenly. Roof would not respond until I managed to pull out some of the broken and mangled pieces that were blocking the travel. Managed to get it closed. Final solution was replacement of the guiderail (dayum cheap azz plastic parts).

Well, I thought I'd update what's going on with this. I have now fixed it.

This morning I went downstairs, backed her out of the garage, disconnected the battery, and waited 5 minutes. After that I plugged 'er back in, and closed the sunroof - all buttons operational.

Don't know why it happened, or how it happened. Maybe a bug? :revenge:

On aftermarket roofs, if you hold down the button for about 10 seconds,
it will re-initialize the electronics and reset the roof.
