I brought the Maruder in for its final warranty service.

Some of the issues that I had reads like the recall service bulletins...

1. Condensation in headlights.
2. Rough idle at start.
3. PS pump EXCESSIVELY noisy.
4. Right front window slow to move up or down.
5. Driveshaft vibration at higher speeds.
6. Squeak coming from somewhere in the front end.
7. Drivers seat front panel not connected/won't stay connected to frame.
8. Pass seat front seat panel wearing bare at a crease.
9. Brakes pulse on hard braking.

They have had the car since Tuesday. So far I have been told that the "Ford response" to the condensation issue is to turn on the highbeams and "burn off" the moisture. Does this sound right to you guys?

It looks like they are replacing the rotors to solve the brake pulse issue. I guess that won't be under warranty. :)

The window issue has something to do with the track which they are replacing.

I'll keep all of you in the loop with what I learn next. While I am at this, have any of you had any other things that have happened to your car while in warranty that isn't on my list? I want to make sure that I haven't missed anything.

Best,

Dan

If you have heated seats the switches might start flashing, they'll need to be replaced.

My 03 had the headlight condensation issue. It was due to poor workmanship imo. The gasket between the lens and body was not properly done. I bought a tube of 3m black silicon and put a bead all the way around the seam. I never had the issue again.

Has anyone compiled a complete list of TSB's on our 2003 and 2004 MM's?

Thanks,

Dave

When I took mine in, they told me they have a procedure to run the high beams for 15 minutes to determine the problem. According to them if moisture stays after 15 minutes it's bad (cracked/moisture leak)!

I guess they try to rule out a cracked housing vs. moisture trapped when assembled.

What is a TSB ?Technical Service Bulletin. It's how Ford communicates the fixes for various "known" issues to the dealer.

Apparently Ford is now asking dealers to burn off the moisture prior to replacement of the headlights.

So far they have replaced my power sterring pump and, believe it or not, my rotors, under warranty.

So far, so good. :)

Tell them to replace the headlights......
I had the same problem on my Grand Marquis...design issue.
They replaced both headlight units. Problem fixed.

Gotta Love It! :pimp:

The replacement headlights have a new updated part #. FMC knows they have a problem and are probably waiting for the warranty to expire.
Typical FORD. :bs:

Just take a squirt bottle that has a mist setting, add water, pull the housing and bulb, squirt, and off to the dealer you go? maybe let bake a day

Dan Well that's a line of crud if I ever heard one.

Good thing you don't have damp interior carpet ... their so-called fix for that would probably be .....

"Leave vehicle idling with heating system set to all MAX output settings ..... until carpets are dry to the touch".

I have already asked them about the headlights and they say that Ford has changed it's policy and is now NOT replacing them. Any ideas?

Also, they cannot reproduce the squeak in the front end so that is looking like another dead end. Again, any ideas?

Best,

Dan

Well, I got the car back from the dealer yesterday. I have been too busy to pick it up sooner.

I found it interesting to see that the car had an extra 50 miles on it. I wonder how many sandwich runs that is.

The experience with this dealer went pretty well. The only issues were the headlights, as previously stated, and their refusal to fix a tear in the seat.

What happened to the seat is that is wore itself on a crease and eventually opened up. The service manager refused the repair because there was no "obvious cause" for the tear. He, of course, said that someone must have punctured it. Yeah, the only person to sit in this seat is my wife. She is the last person to have a sharp object in her SKIRT!

The tear is on the front passenger seat. It is in the solid panel that is in front of the pleated area of the seat. It is less than 1" from the sewn seam.

I have to call Ford and make this a larger issue. The replacement part costs $434.00.

Any suggestions, gang?

Dan
