I was smoked at the dragstrip by a 2002 Lightning. Those things are no joke. It had drag radials on the back so I don't know how stock it was. It had a much higher trap speed but his 1/4 mile was much better.

My marauder was running 14.7's in the quarter, with gears and a chip. My 99 lightning, with gears, chip, and cold air kit was worth a 13.1 second quarter....
You be the judge... Marauder will get completely smashed by a Lightning, stock or modified.
Unless of course your name is mensrea, then the Lightning guy will actually have to put some effort into it.
I miss my Lightning.

Which really makes me wonder why they didn't just drop the lightning engine into the Marauder.

im not 100% sure but i believe i read somewhere that the reason why they did not do that was because of clearance issues:confused:

Lightning motor would stick about 9 inches above the hood line.... :)

Who needs hoods? :D
Oh yah... that would probably disqualify the 5-star crash test rating huh?

That's why they make scoops...clearance and xtra air...

I dunno. A 9 inch tall hoodscoop might look a little gay.

Ah, but not if you buy a lightning longblock and then add a kenny belle twin screw supercharger. Not the lightning replacement, but the expedition kit. Instead of the air intake coming out the top ontop of that huge eaton M112 supercharger on top of that rediculously large flat intake manifold, you get a low profile intake manifold that fits in the valley of the block, and then a lower profile twin screw that sits on top with a driver side air inlet. :) I have been thinking about this way too much, but it is possible that setup wouldnt even need a scoop, just a cutting of some of the underhood bracing. If it does need a scoop, it wouldnt have to be a very big one:)

Would the 5.4 fit without the blower?

Our 99 Lightning has gone 12.84 @ 105 with stock tires, a full tank of gas, all the stuff we took to Norwalk for our Mustang and also had the reciever still attatched to the hitch, ( which weighs about 50 lbs. ) and still has the stock exhaust on it. all that and I had to baby it off the line. Not to bash anyone here but, The Marauder was built for comfort and style and the Lightning was built for brutality. NO CONTEST !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First off awhile back I came up to a new lightning on the freeway. Got beside him at about 80, floored it. About 2 sec. later the lightning realised I was playing with him, he decided to play too. About 2 sec. after that he passed me as I was climbing close too 100, never saw him again.
Second the 5.4 dosent fit, blower or no blower. Deck height is the problem. Dosent fit under the cowl.

Ah well. Guess we'll just have to see what can be done with the 4.6 then. Thanks.

My dad's Thunderbird has a '96 4.6, all he did is put in 3.0" Dynomax pipes, Super Performance chip, K&N air system (custom order), and a whole bunch of stuff I don't know about.

ok had to add this ...this is awesome!
Coletti's team fit the SVT Lightning concept with an all-aluminum, 5.4-liter DOHC supercharged and intercooled V-8 engine conservatively rated at 500 horsepower and 500 foot pounds of torque (SAE net). And while they were at it, they invented and patented a speed secret for those times when even that much power just isn't enough.
Ford's patented SuperCooler technology cleverly provides a special burst of power for the SVT Lightning concept. Traditional intercoolers dissipate heat from the supercharged air by circulating coolant through a front-mounted, air-cooled radiator. With the SuperCooler system, the vehicle's air conditioning system is used to chill a small storage tank of coolant to about 30 degrees Fahrenheit.
On demand, the SuperCooler system switches the intercooler flow from its normal circulation and dumps the chilled coolant into the engine's intercooler. In turn, the intercooler dissipates up to 20 percent more heat from the charge air - resulting in a denser air charge.
A green light on the instrument panel indicates the system's readiness. SuperCooler is activated automatically when the driver depresses the accelerator to a wide-open-throttle position.
This technology plays directly into the hands of the enthusiast, Coletti says. The SuperCooler provides the edge for the driver, and it is done simply by taking advantage of the hardware that already exists in the vehicle.
As a result of this cool technology, the SVT Lighting concept can give its driver as much as 50 transient horsepower for short bursts of 30-45 seconds and regenerate within 2 minutes under normal driving conditions. While its effect is similar to that of an aftermarket nitrous oxide system, the SuperCooler is completely self-contained, environmentally friendly and regenerative.
The SVT Lightning concept engine features a Lysholm, screw-type supercharger, paired with both an intercooler and the new SuperCooler system. The 32-valve, double-overhead-cam powerplant boasts Manley connecting rods, two fuel injectors per cylinder and high-performance heads similar to those on the limited-edition 2000 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra R.
Exhaust gases escape through free-flowing headers and dual side pipes, producing a classic American V-8 rumble. Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The same Tremec T-56 transmission is used in the 2003 Ford SVT Mustang Cobra. In keeping with the performance nature of the SVT Lightning, the short-throw, console-mounted shifter is more like that of a sports car than a traditional pickup's long-shaft, floor mounted shift lever.
