View Full Version : Nitto 555r's - anyone rub at 305?

Will probably get the 555 extreme radials as a street tire, planning having my wheels widened, just wondering if I should go for 295's or 305's. The 305's are cooler, and having a tire width in the 300's rules. I know many have them in drag radials.

Just seeing for those who have 305's, specifically NT555's, did they rub?

I heard some had to put a spacer on the shock...is that a must or just some cases? How big a spacer?

Just planning ahead. :)

EDIT: I may have made an error, I can't find 555 extreme radials in 305's, only 295s....what are my street tire (non-drag radial) options for 305/45/18? Maybe I should just go for the 295...

my drivers side rubbed a little paint of the top of the shock, the tire showed no wear whatsoever. I have added no spacer and probably wont either.

so a search, there was al engthy thread on this already

Gotcha, anyway I think I'm mistaken, I'm looking for street tires NOT drag radials, so isn't that bit apples to oranges?

The confusion may be the thread title is 555 "r"...

I have the "Street Radials" on all four rims with no clearance issues at all (and I love them!). The sizes are:

NT555 Extream Performance
fronts: 245/45 ZR18 100W
rears: 295/45 ZR18 112W

The NT555R is the "Drag Radial" and is the only one available in the 305 size.

The 555 extreme radials are available in 295s which fit great. The 555R is the drag radial and they're available in 305s which rub the shocks if the car is jacked up but not in normal diving position. And you can change to the upgraded shocks for tons of clearance with either tire.

They're great tires, I went with the 255/45s on the front. And I got 2 sets of widened rims so it's easy to swap between the street rears and the drag radials.

FYI --

I've got the 305 Drags and they rubbed my OEM shock--so I am using 5/16th spacer for now----someday I will do what Nut did--its called $$$$$ that went elsewhere--
Every MM is different--some do rub (305's)--some don't --don't know why--either you upgrade shocks to eliminate it or use spacers ( and those sizes will variey to do the job as well)----at the moment --I'm using spacers due to $$$ --everything is an upgrade($$$$) --
But for normal street use--I'd go with the 295's--they should work regardless of shock type----Tom

I have the 305 drag radials & the rub the shock tops a little, not enough to get whigged. I run Eagle F's in 295 for drivers & no rub..all on the wider rims.

Good luck.

I really like the F1-GS tires, wish there was something that matched for the fronts. Matching up is the main reason I'm going with the 555's next time around.

Same here...mine barely rub at all. No problems at all with the tire itself either. IMO, the use of spacers drastically increases the shear load on your wheel studs. Something I wouldn't want to do.
