Last friday night, I was invited by Tallboy to go to a private track event at Bradenton Raceway. The Porche/Audi dealership his lovely wife works for invited a bunch of their customers and employees to attend the event. I almost didn't go due to having no power at home from Wilma but my wife said go.

The air was a cool 67 degrees and the air was dry. Track prep was top notch.

First pass was my best of the night and a new personal best: 12.647 @ 108.06 MPH with an awesome 1.763 second 60' time.

There were dozens of Porches there. The one that impressed me the most was the 911 that ran 10.3 at 149MPH. That was without a burnout. He claims close to 1000 HP. Most of them ranged from the upper 12's to the upper 13's. For the most part, we didn't race them with the Marauders. We were invited guests and didn't want to come off as party crashers.

I ran another 6 or 7 times, all against Tallboy and Shakes26. I had a bunch of 12.6xx passes and practiced my launch technique and reaction time. It was lots of fun. On the return road from one of those passes, I stopped to watch Chuck run his car's first ever 12 second pass. I was happier about that pass than my own!

At the end of the night, about 10PM, I had said out loud that I'm making my last pass and I'm going home. One of the guys that works at the dealership overheard me and challenged me to a race. He has a Mitsu EVO with what he said are the "regular" mods.

The last few runs I made, I was going easy on the burnout so I didn't burn up my new Nittos all in one night. For this run, I heated them up real good. :burnout:
I got him on the lite, .061 to .115. My car cut a 1.80 60 footer and was ahead his car from start to finish. I ran a 12.665 to his 12.7xx and beat him by nearly a car length. I was stoked.

After the race, he came over to me to congratulate me and was simply amazed that a car almost twice as heavy with with only 2 wheel drive was able launch like that. I was amazed to see him in my rear view the whole race!

Man, I love this car!!!!!!!!

Hey, hey, HEY! I protest.

You aren't allowed to use "private track" and really mean it.

Best,

Man! You should have seen this one! This was my favorite run of the night. The guy in the Evo was cool without being cocky, and I enjoyed talking to him. But, as the two cars lined up, a friend of the guy in the Evo turned to another guy standing next to him [my buddy Tim] and said "watch this". Carfixer did a John-Force burnout and the Nittos were, shall we say, "sufficiently heated". Carfixer took him off the line and stayed in front the whole run-it was by far the closest run of the night. I saw Carfixer take the win and jumped out of my shoes!

The Evo guy's buddy turned to Tim and said "What do you mean, watch this? He LOST"! Tim replied: "Yeah, that was my point"! Man, what a night!

A special thanks to my friend Gordon for letting a few Marauder guys hang out with the Porsche/Audi/VW guys for a night. We turned a lot of heads and gained a lot of respect. When we got there, [around 6PM] everyone was standing around talking. I asked Gordon "What's up? Can we race?" He replied "Yeah-we're just waiting on someone to kick it off". Carfixer and I were the first two cars down the 1320 that night, and while others had faster timeslips, none had bigger smiles... :)

Great story and great run. I would have loved to be there to see those Porsche's run. I hope to have the chance to say that I have owned a Prosche at some point in my life. They hold something close to me car wise.

Speaking of EVO's, when we were at the track a couple of weeks ago, there was one there. I was really suprised to see him running high-11's to low-12's. But it was very inconsistent.

Thanks for the story Claude, and the followup Tallboy. Spectator comments can be some of the best stuff to hear.

I'm running the Trilogy kit with the stock pulley, 4.10:1 rear end gears, K&N cold air kit (which I just removed) and Nitto DR's on widened wheels.

Claude, Curious as to why you removed the K&N cold air kit. Any insight would be appreciated as I recently installed one. Thanks Dennis:confused:

I found that the open filter amplifies the Eaton whine during boost and I'd rather is be a little less noticeable on the street.
I did notice a little performance decrease with my stock stuff on and will probably put it back on for when I go to the track.
