I have a weak AM radio station that recently became unlistenable since daylight savings time.

Is there any device I could add to increase my reception?

Do you mean 'forward'?

I could not find the word "foward" on the radio station.

John, I'm glad that you asked this. I travel a lot ajd I like to listen to talk radio. Some areas don't have stations close by, and reception is really poor. I'd love to have something to bring in distant or weak stations stronger and more clearly. I've thought about *GASP* drilling a hole in the rear fender and installing a genuine, old time antenna.

Or you can go with satellite radio

They make antenna signal amplifiers that plug in line between your radio and the antenna.

There are some good satellite antennas. This one is expensive but it really works.

I tried it on my car.. lost 3 seconds off my best 1/4 time. Sent it back. Some of the stations were out of this world, Tho. Dennis:beer:

JC Whitney should sell them too, actually, your local Wal-Mart probably has them.

It's my belief that the radio reception on AM is tunable via the old time AM antenna trim adjustments, but does anyone know where that adjuster would be on our radios? I'm quite sure that the entire reception problem is due to mismatched antenna tuning, and not the actual antenna quality. My LS is the same way, I can't hear the WEEI guys very well after the sun sets and the ionosphere loses its daytime attributes. :rasta:

The service manual DVD does not have any radio antenna tuning info on it, that I was able to find.

John, Eric at Walls said to say hi when I was in for an alignment on 10/29. They told me that you had just had a tire replaced the week prior, when I asked if you still had your Blue Kenny Brown. I hadn't seen you post here much lately, so I didn't know.

To mnth:
I just nicked a granite curb at a very slow speed and the tire (Pirelli) defalted with about a 1 in. diameter hole. I couldn't believe it!

There is very little margin of safety with these low profile tires.

I 'm running my business harder than in a long time. I'm trying to stabilize the situation because many of my manufacturing customers have moved to Asia.
So diversification is the name of the game.

I'll be moving during the next several months in oder to reduce my overhead too.

There isn't much time for marauder fun or any other mods because money is tight. My wife keeps reminding me of that too.

Thanks for asking.

I've had a couple stereos that had the AM adjustment behind the cassette door.

OK, here's the (correct) answer. There are many factors but mostly it's due to RF propogation and affected by ionization of the ionosphere and FCC rules that require local stations to cut their power during hours of darkness. The stations you can hear (clear channel stations) run high power ~50,000 watts, and your locals are limited to about 100 watts or less and must change antennas in some cases. However, as propogation changes, they fade in and out.

What can you do about it? Nothing, it's not your fault, nor is it your radio's. You can't get any kind of gadget that will improve reception, so don't waste your time and money. Sattelite radio is not affected by these conditions, and is a simple answer, or just stuff a tape or CD in the radio's pie hole, and live with it. FM radio is not affected by "skip" conditions and is another (free)alternative.

When the sun comes up, the problem goes away, and so will those high power stations you can hear all night.:sunshine:
